Merchant Risk Analyst
Job Description/Responsibilities
As a Merchant Risk Analyst at PatientFi, you will play a vital role in supporting our merchant network by analyzing transaction data, monitoring account performance, and assisting with risk and operational insights. You will work closely with internal Data/Risk teams, including Fraud, Underwriting, Lending Operations, and Credit Strategy, to promote merchant success while ensuring compliance and reducing financial risk. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career fintech professional eager to develop their skills in data analysis and gain a strong understanding of merchant oversight and credit operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor merchant activity and transaction trends to identify unusual or high-risk behavior.
- Partner with the Underwriting team to review provider performance when adding new locations or when new enrollments may be tied to existing accounts.
- Support ongoing risk reviews of existing merchants, including financial performance and adherence to program guidelines.
- Investigate and escalate suspicious activity or fraud indicators to the appropriate teams (Fraud, Underwriting, Lending Operations).
- Maintain accurate documentation of findings, decisions, and merchant communications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team, including Sales, Operations, Commercial, Finance, and Customer Support, to ensure a strong risk management framework.
- Support the management of PatientFi’s credit portal by monitoring for accuracy, escalating issues, and assisting with the installation of updates and new features.
Desired Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years of experience in fintech, banking, or a related financial services environment
- 1+ years of experience in merchant risk management
- Familiarity with merchant monitoring, including tracking account performance, analyzing trends, and applying risk frameworks, credit policies, or transaction monitoring systems.
- Exposure to payment platforms, lending operations, or SaaS portals for managing financial products
- Proficiency with spreadsheets and visualization tools (Excel, Google Sheets, Looker)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with internal teams
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and adept at handling multiple initiatives in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.
