Job Description

A bit more about this role:

Devoted Medical was founded on the belief that if we treat each member like we would our loved ones, we can improve healthcare experiences and outcomes for our patients.  The Behavioral Health Program is at the heart of this goal: the program seeks to ensure that all patients with behavioral health disorders receive the care they need at the right time, in the right place.  We recognize that too often our patients cannot access behavioral health services that we would want for our own family because of stigma, fragmentation, and lack of supply.

We are looking for a highly skilled, innovative, and mission-driven psychiatrist clinical director to lead our Behavioral Health program at Devoted Health. This is not a traditional clinical role—it is a leadership position requiring a deep understanding of complex behavioral health conditions in geriatric populations, strong cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to shape the future of our behavioral health model. The ideal candidate is an expert in clinical psychiatry who is comfortable working in a fast-evolving environment, providing both strategic direction and hands-on clinical insight. The core focus of this role is to rapidly scale a Behavioral Health Collaborative Care program that is highly integrated into our Virtual Primary Care Clinic, build our psychiatry e-consult program, and develop a clinical intervention that supports our members with serious mental illness.  You will serve as a trusted partner to our operational leaders, social workers, and APPs while ensuring our members receive the highest quality behavioral health care. If you are passionate about transforming mental health care and thrive in an innovative, mission-driven setting, we want to hear from you.

This role will involve both leadership and clinical work.

Clinical Leadership, Program Oversight and Development:

  • Serve as the primary architect of our growing behavioral health program. You will be the key subject matter expert and builder of our care model, partnering closely with the Head of Clinical Operations for Primary Care and the Social Work Manager(s). Your domains of responsibility will include collaborative care, psychiatry e-consults, and a future serious mental illness program.

  • Monitor program performance using KPIs such as patient engagement, symptom improvement (e.g., PHQ-9 scores), and readmission rates for behavioral health diagnoses.

  • Contribute to training and development initiatives to improve virtual and outpatient behavioral health care delivery.

  • Assess the quality of care provided to behavioral health patients and deliver targeted feedback for improvement. This includes shadowing virtual visits and asynchronous calls and performing chart reviews for the Behavioral Health Team.

  • Work closely with the BH social work manager to provider clinical oversight to the BH team. You will serve as a key clinical escalation point for the behavioral health team.

Clinical Leadership:

  • Deliver psychiatric care to behavioral health patients to ensure therapeutic optimization and effective, patient-centered psychiatric care. You will serve as the psychiatrics consultant for collaborative care, provide asynchronous psychiatric consultations (e-consults) for patients across the Devoted ecosystem.

  • You will be asked to pilot a range of direct psychiatric patient care offerings as we seek to develop our BH care model.

  • Participate in regular panel review and case review discussions to offer advice and provide guidance around medical management. Deliver all the necessary components of a successful BH Collaborative Care model.

  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with external stakeholders, including psychiatrists, hospitalists, and therapists.

Culture & Advocacy:

  • Champion a patient-centered and open clinical culture, fostering trust and empowerment within the team.

  • Support and facilitate change management as the clinical model rapidly evolves.

  • Advocate for behavioral health equity and accessibility within the organization and community.

  • Provide feedback to improve the electronic health information system (Orinoco) and other clinical tools.

  • Partner with the Director of Operations with open communication and clinical insight to inform design.

Reporting

In this position, you will report directly to the Medical Director for Primary Care

Attributes to Success:

  • You are a servant leader, recognizing that everyone's success is your success.  As a leader you are there to enable your team to be empowered to do the best work possible and trust your guidance and assistance.

  • You are a strong clinician with an adult psychiatry background and enjoy caring for patients with behavioral health disorders as if they were your own family.

  • You have experience and passion for serving patients like Devoted’s: predominantly a geriatric population, or a D-SNP (Medicaid eligible) population.

  • You are organized and enjoy meticulous attention to detail. As a result, you can deliver targeted and accurate feedback to individuals and the organization on areas of improvement.

  • You’re a happy warrior - as long as you’re in a great environment with smart, caring people all working together toward a common aim, you’re comfortable working hard.

  • You’re wired for learning and change, not being afraid to fail.

  • You have a passion for making healthcare better, solving complex problems, and supporting the delivery of healthcare that we would want for our own family members.

  • You enjoy a fast-paced, high-energy, growing organization.

  • Agility and collaboration are critical to your success - we are a new organization and have a start-up mentality.

  • Thinking about the big picture is key for you, but YOU sweat the details.

Skills and Experience:

  • A board-certified psychiatrist with at least 2 years clinical experience in adult psychiatry

  • Prior experience building integrated behavioral health clinical programs preferred

  • Experience managing other behavioral health clinicians preferred

  • Telehealth experience preferred

  • Experience serving Medicare Advantage and/or Medicaid populations preferred
