About the Role
Poliigon is seeking an experienced Material Artist with a proven track record of creating realistic, production-ready procedural textures in Substance Designer. The ideal candidate has a keen eye for micro-detail, a deep understanding of physically based rendering (PBR), and the ability to match or exceed the level of quality showcased in Poliigon’s material library.
This role combines procedural material creation with photogrammetry-based workflows, requiring both artistic precision and technical expertise. You’ll contribute to one of the world’s leading material libraries, helping to set the standard for realism in digital content creation.
If hired you will be paid per asset completed and need to agree to target cost/rate before starting requested asset.
Key Responsibilities
Create high-quality, tiling procedural materials in Substance Designer that meet Poliigon’s benchmark for realism.
Convert photogrammetry scans into production-ready, seamless PBR textures.
Ensure materials capture micro details such as surface imperfections, subtle variation, and accurate reflectance.
Adapt textures for different Metal/Rough workflow.
Collaborate in weekly meetings, providing clear updates and progress reports.
Accept and integrate feedback through the review pipeline to refine assets to final quality.
Self-manage tasks, prioritize effectively, and consistently meet deadlines.
Required Skills & Experience
Must-have: Strong portfolio demonstrating procedural texture creation in Substance Designer, think Arch Viz (e.g., stone, concrete, wood, metals, fabrics, organic surfaces).
Deep understanding of PBR principles and the ability to reproduce real-world material properties with accuracy.
Keen eye for surface micro-details (roughness variation, edge wear, subsurface scattering hints, etc.).
Experience preparing photoscanned textures and converting them into seamless materials.
Basic navigation skills in Blender or similar 3D applications (for testing and previewing materials).
Ability to evaluate strengths/limitations of different workflows (e.g., when to use Designer vs. Sampler).
Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance multiple projects.
Ability to collaborate across time zones (PST preferred).
Reliable, fast internet for uploading/downloading high-resolution assets.
