Manager, Software Engineering

About the role

The Software Development Manager is a highly technical and results-oriented leader, responsible for recruiting and developing exceptional talent. This role requires collaborating with stakeholders and customers to establish feature roadmaps for services that address both functional and scaling requirements of our customers organizations.

What you'll do

• Lead, managed, mentor, and direct a team of developers (remote)
• Convert complex functional and technical requirements into detailed project plans and schedules; manage daily engineering team activities through a clear, proactive development strategy for our product line.
• Work with other departments to determine software development priorities, including design, development, documentation, and testing of new and existing software.
• Assess results to ensure the business unit achieves organizational objectives and adjust team strategies as needed to meet deadlines and deliverables.
• Analyze and address software development problems and needs throughout the software's life cycle, promoting creative problem-solving within the team.
• Ensure adherence to engineering best practices in SDLC and Shipium's technical standards and guidance.
• Participate in hiring engineers and cross-functional team members; conduct 1:1 coaching sessions with team members, setting goals and expectations for individual contributors; manage performance reviews, personnel concerns, and disciplinary action as needed.
• Code Reviews, deep technical understanding of Java
• Promote technical collaboration across Shipium; deliver or contribute to technical solutions that align with business needs.
• Partner with Product, Marketing, Sales, Principal Engineers, and other technical teams to define appropriate project phases for the roadmap and ensure team deliverables.
• Assume a leadership role in addressing complex problems, facilitating discussions with other engineering teams to find solutions, and present them to leadership.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science/Information technology or equivalent and/or 5+ years related experience in a Software Development Management or Director-level role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
