Legal Operations Director

This founding Legal Operations Director role offers the opportunity to build and scale a high-impact legal operations function from the ground up. You will design and implement efficient workflows, optimize legal technology platforms, and establish operational processes that enable the legal team to operate at scale. Partnering closely with cross-functional teams across Sales, Finance, Product, HR, and Procurement, you will ensure legal operations align with business objectives while leveraging AI and automation to improve efficiency. The role involves leading strategic initiatives, managing vendors, defining KPIs, and driving change management in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. This position is ideal for a proactive and innovative leader who thrives in shaping processes, technology adoption, and operational excellence across a growing organization.

Accountabilities:

Lead the vision and execution of Legal Operations to build a scalable, efficient, and high-performing function
Design and manage legal intake, matter management, and workflow processes to increase efficiency and enable self-service
Serve as the administrator and optimizer of the legal-tech stack, including CLM platforms and AI-enabled tools
Define, track, and report operational metrics, driving continuous improvement and process simplification
Manage vendor relationships, e-billing, outside counsel spend, and budget oversight
Support strategic transactions, M&A, financings, and other legal operations initiatives
Lead cross-functional initiatives, change management, and adoption of new systems, processes, and technologies

Requirements:

8+ years of Legal Operations experience in a high-growth technology or services company, with 2+ years leading and developing a team
Hands-on expertise with modern CLM platforms (ideally Ironclad) and legal intake/matter-management systems
Proven experience in e-billing, outside counsel management, and legal analytics
Strong operational, analytical, and process-building skills; ability to define KPIs, dashboards, and actionable insights
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive presence
Demonstrated success in leading complex cross-functional initiatives and change management
Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with a continuous-improvement mindset
Preferred: Project management certifications (PMP, PRINCE2), global team experience, SaaS or tech-enabled services background, AI-enabled legal workflow experience
