It is expected that position duties will be performed remotely. Access to our office location and event attendance is optional. The time commitment is 10-25 hours per week.</p><p><strong>POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p><p>We are looking for a Lead Software Engineering Instructor to lead the teaching of the SEO Tech Developer Summer Residency. This role will interface directly with our Program Manager and Teaching Assistants to ensure students (rising college Juniors) are prepared to launch successful SWE and SWE-adjacent careers. The Software Engineering Instructor will work closely with the program’s Lead Teaching Assistant to guide students through the curriculum through<strong> project-based assignments </strong>with well-defined guidelines and deliverables. The role demands a strong interest in <strong>career empowerment and mentorship</strong> for our students. </p><p>We are looking for an individual who will bring <strong>enthusiasm for learning </strong>and the ability to <strong>motivate and cultivate individuals across various technical backgrounds</strong> to grow their software engineering skills. Additionally, we aim to work with someone who recognizes AI’s versatility in today’s shifting tech landscape and can guide our students to use generative AI tools carefully and effectively. </p><p>On a day-to-day basis, the Software Engineering Instructor can expect to:</p><ul><li>Deliver daily lectures from <strong>11AM-12:30PM ET</strong>, creating an interactive student experience through mini quizzes, live coding demos, etc. </li><li>Review and refine lesson materials (lecture slides, assignments), curriculum scheduling, and project expectations to best meet the needs of the cohort </li><li>Consistently check in with Teaching Assistants to assess student progress </li><li>Work with teaching and program staff to organize student demo-day presentations including <strong>final project Demo Days from July 22nd to 24th</strong></li><li>Continuously assess course impact and share timely feedback with program staff regarding curriculum improvement and overall program effectiveness</li></ul><p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><ul><li>Teaching experience (e.g., facilitating meetings, delivering training, mentorship)</li><li>Proficiency in our tech stack (see below)</li><li>A track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among a diverse group of distributed stakeholders</li><li>Excellent communication and leadership skills</li><li>Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively to implement and deliver program curriculum</li><li>Deep understanding and commitment to carrying out SEO’s mission and values</li></ul><p><strong>DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><ul><li>At least <strong>four years of experience as a software developer</strong> or similar technical role (can be combined with relevant teaching experience) </li><li>Experience leading or working collaboratively with an instructional team</li></ul><p><strong>Instructional design experience on a project-based curriculum</strong></p><ul><li>Demonstrable project management experience</li><li>Strong understanding of AI best practices for software developers</li><li>Strong interest in the social implications of technology</li></ul><p><strong>TECH STACK</strong></p><ul><li>Required: </li><ul><li>Strong Python skills</li><li>Comfort working with various APIs and libraries </li><li>Experience with version control (Git/GitHub)</li><li>Basic familiarity of web technologies (JS/HTML/CSS)</li></ul><li>Preferred: </li><ul><li>Comfort with command line/bash</li><li>Familiarity with Flask and similar web frameworks </li><li>Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub CoPilot</li></ul></ul><p><strong>TIME COMMITMENT</strong></p><ul><li>8 weeks total (June-July 2026)</li><ul><li>10 hours per week of onboarding and planning during the first two weeks </li><li>25 hours per week of preparation time, instruction, and office hours during the 6 week synchronous program phase </li></ul></ul><p><strong>COMPENSATION & BENEFITS   </strong> </p><p><em>This position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.</em> </p><p>The compensation listed in this posting reflects what SEO believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting.
