The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Internal Communications Specialist. The Internal Communications Specialist will create and maintain proactive, strategic, integrated internal communications targeted to Velera leaders, employees and targeted key stakeholders. Reporting to the Manager, Internal Communications, the Specialist translates business strategies into key messages, develops appropriate internal communications initiatives in support of those strategies, and executes and drives programs that build awareness, drive engagement, align teams and shape Velera’s culture.

Collaboration with internal stakeholders at various levels in the organization is required to gather content/messaging about products, solutions, services, events and announcements. Content is primarily written communications designed to inform, explain, interest, promote, advise or persuade, depending on project objectives. The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for the development and creation of a broad range of communications, including (but not limited to) employee newsletters; standalone communications to targeted audiences; diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives; employee engagement efforts; messages about company news and events; scripts for Velera executives and crisis communications, as needed. The position is also primarily responsbile for regularly posting content to Velera’s intranet and internal social media platforms.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional writing ability, professional editorial judgment, proficiency in both long-form and short-form content development, and strong working knowledge of AP style. The ability to distill complex topics into compelling, easily consumable content is critical. This role also works with the Creative team in the development of any complementary graphical, digital and/or social campaign components.

Day In The Life

  • Owns daily management of internal communications channels (direct email, intranet, social) and content creation processes.

  • Elevates and drives execution of internal communications efforts through brainstorms, idea generation, development of strategic communications plans, visual and video content creation, drafting/copy writing, editing/proofing, approval routing, publication and distribution of internal/employee communications programs, content series, campaigns, webinars and events.

  • Ensures communications meet quality standards while managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Works closely and professionally with clients and subject matter experts, demonstrating interpersonal skills and commitment to completing projects according to mutually agreed upon deadlines.

  • Works with IT team members and Marketing web developers to ensure functionality and accuracy of intranet and Office 365 applications.

  • Maintains current knowledge of credit union industry news and trends, VELERA products, solutions and services, as well as the company’s strategic initiatives.

  • Provides support for various cross-functional projects and external communications efforts as needed. Ensures consistency across internal and external messages and content.

  • Assists leadership in the collection and presentation of performance metrics that reflect the Internal Communications team’s productivity and output.

  • Exercises initiative, discretion, follow-through and independent judgment. Provides editorial feedback on the work of other team members to ensure quality control.

  • Provides coverage for emergency communications if/as needed outside of normal business hours, including business disruption events and/or other crises. Participates in rotation of on-call staff members to manage emergency or urgent communication requests that occur (rarely) outside of normal business hours.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism or related field required. 

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a communications or related role, preferably within the financial services industry.

  • Proven experience leading start to finish communications plans from strategic planning through execution.

Skills

  • Exceptional collaboration, interpersonal communication, planning, project management and coordination skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work in fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated experience successfully communicating to large virtual audiences and individuals.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats and give presentations utilizing various audiovisual support aids.

  • Knowledge of communications delivery vehicles as well as corporate communications functions, tactics and best practices.

  • Experience working with Senior Leaders.

  • Capability to think creatively and originally to create compelling and engaging content for assignments.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel; experience with SharePoint a plus.

  • Fluent in AP Style and able to write clearly and succinctly with a high-level of accuracy, using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.

  • Demonstrated excellent analytical and quantitative skills.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in decision making.

  • Ability to periodically support crisis communications outside of normal business hours.

  • Demonstrate behaviors based on Velera core values.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to be flexible and work under high pressure in a complex environment.

  • Ability to travel as needed to successfully perform position responsibilities.

Pay Equity

$67,700.00

to

$86,300.00

Actual Pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
