Job Title: Inpatient Coding Educator / Mostly Remote

Location: Mostly Remote – Must reside in IL, WI, IA, IN, OH, MI or FL
Salary Range: $60,000 – $89,000 (DOE & internal analysis)A large academic medical system with multiple hospitals and a nationally recognized flagship facility is seeking an experienced Inpatient Coding Educator to join its Health Information Management team. This remote position plays a key role in advancing documentation and coding quality across the organization by delivering targeted education, conducting audits, and supporting performance improvement initiatives.Key Responsibilities: - Deliver ongoing education to inpatient coding staff, clinical documentation specialists, licensed providers, and vendor coders
- Analyze coding quality dashboards and audit findings to identify training needs
- Create and implement educational materials, coding tools, and follow-up programs
- Onboard new inpatient coding staff and perform periodic quality reviews
- Collaborate with cross-functional leadership and operational coding teams to improve coding accuracy and compliance
- Develop and facilitate assessments and short presentations on coding topics
Qualifications:Required: - RHIT, RHIA, or CCS certification
- Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field
- Minimum 5 years of inpatient coding experience, ideally at a Level I Trauma or academic medical center
- Prior experience as a coding educator or auditor in a complex, high-volume setting
- Proficient in Epic and 3M
- Strong understanding of complex inpatient cases (trauma, spinal fusions, sepsis, etc.)
- Excellent communication, presentation, and critical thinking skills
Preferred: - Bachelor's degree or enrollment in an HIM program
- Prior experience creating coding education tools and leading staff training
Additional Details: - Work Schedule: Monday–Friday; flexible hours
- Assessment Required: Initial assessment followed by interviews and a short presentation on a coding topic of choice
