This role offers a dynamic opportunity to design, deploy, and manage secure cloud infrastructure across both private and government sectors. The Infrastructure Systems Engineer will lead automation initiatives, implement best practices in AWS environments, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure scalable, secure, and high-performing systems. The position emphasizes innovation, hands-on problem-solving, and the ability to optimize operations through Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and containerization. Accountabilities
- Design, deploy, and manage AWS environments (EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, RDS) using Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform/OpenTofu, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
- Implement serverless architectures and configuration management solutions (Ansible, Puppet) to improve operational efficiency.
- Build and maintain secure CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline) and automation scripts in Python, Bash, or other languages.
- Containerize applications using Docker and manage container orchestration on AWS ECS.
- Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure system performance, availability, and security.
- Enforce security best practices (IAM, VPC, WAF, TLS/SSL, key management) and ensure alignment with compliance standards (FISMA, FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-53, SOC, ISO 27001, PCI, HIPAA, SOC2).
- Collaborate with developers, QA engineers, IT operations, and product owners to streamline workflows and improve infrastructure reliability.
- Participate in data integration and management efforts, ensuring high availability and performance of databases and ingestion pipelines.
- Document infrastructure, automation, and CI/CD processes, and mentor team members to share best practices.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship and resident (preferably Eastern Time Zone or willing to align hours).
- Willingness to complete rigorous background checks, reference verification, and GitHub/LinkedIn review.
- 4–5+ years of hands-on Systems/DevOps experience with a strong focus on AWS.
- AWS Professional-level Certification (AWS DevOps Engineer – Professional, AWS Solutions Architect – Professional) or equivalent expertise.
- Proficiency with CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions.
- Strong scripting/programming skills: Python, PHP/Laravel, plus one or more of Bash, JavaScript, etc.
- Experience with Docker, AWS ECS, and microservices architecture.
- Advanced knowledge of Linux, including performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Expertise in networking and security (VPC, subnetting, DNS, firewalls/security groups, IAM, encryption).
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform/OpenTofu) and automation best practices.
- Competencies in compliance standards (PCI, HIPAA, SOC2).
- Preferred: government sector experience (FedRAMP), serverless AWS services (Lambda, Step Functions), large-scale enterprise solutions, Django/API development, self-hosted GitHub runners in AWS.
