Role Intro and Overview


We are seeking an experienced and innovative Head of Product to join our growing team. This role focuses on defining and driving Villa’s Product Roadmap, collaborating with Villa’s offsite homebuilding factory partners on home product designs, and designing residential infill projects using offsite construction methods. The ideal candidate will combine design expertise with strategic insight to develop scalable, impactful housing solutions.


This is a full-time, remote opportunity reporting to the VP of Operations. We are currently hiring people based in California, Colorado, and Texas.


What You'll Do:
  • Responsibilities of this role include:
Management
  • Participate in quarterly and annual planning initiatives, ensuring that Product is aligning goals appropriately to meet Villa objectives
  • Partner with Leadership on evaluating next geographies and markets for Villa’s products
  • Research industry trends, materials, and technologies to create and maintain a Product Roadmap for Villa
  • Look for efficiencies within the Product team and improve processes through a cycle of continuous improvement
  • Develop, measure, monitor and improve KPIs for the Product team linked to key initiatives and project deliverables
  • Manage relationship with offsite construction factories
  • Grow and develop a product team as needed for the business. People management will include hiring, onboarding, offboarding, performance management and employee growth
Design
  • Develop innovative architectural concepts for different offsite factory partners, ensuring cost efficiency and manufacturability, while balancing aesthetic, functional, and environmental considerations
  • Manage the design development process from concept to build for principal and fee-building projects across residential housing types
  • Draft and/or oversee: floor plans, elevations, sections, architectural details, schedules, construction set documentation, renderings and 3D models
  • Ensure all designs align with building codes, regulations, and manufacturing capabilities
  • Address technical challenges to maintain design integrity
Project Management
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to understand home product and project requirements and develop design briefs
  • Support the Project Management team in maintaining schedules and delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Support the Site Design team to prepare documents and specifications for permitting and construction
Supplier Coordination
  • Coordinate with offsite factory partners, structural engineering, civil engineering, interior design, and other disciplines to ensure cohesive project execution
  • Evaluate new factories for potential expansion
  • Select decor items and upgrade options from the factories for Villa products
External
  • As necessary, attend industry conferences, trade shows and participate in speaking engagements showcasing Villa’s products and its mission
  • Occasional travel – not more than 10% anticipated, but travel to Villa’s projects and manufacturing partners’ sites will be required


What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution preferred, degrees also considered– Urban Planning, Civil Engineering or Design
  • California Architectural License preferred, but not required
  • Certification in project management (e.g. PMP) is desirable, but not required
  • 8+ years of professional experience in architecture, engineering, urban planning, or design of residential real estate, with a focus on factory-built housing strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, including direct people management and building teams. Start-up experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD and Bluebeam
  • Expertise in architectural drawings, design, rendering, and construction processes
  • Experience with offsite construction methods, including compliance with regulations, building codes, and applicable standards
  • Strong understanding of building codes and permitting processes; particular preference for direct experience in California and/or Colorado
  • Creative problem-solver with a passion for innovative design
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • High integrity individual and aligned with Villa values
  • Growth mindset, adaptability, and willingness to tackle challenges outside of your comfort zone
  • Ability to work in the US without sponsorship


$160,480 - $188,800 a year
The compensation band for this role is $160,480 - $188,800 in California (salary band dependent on location).
