About You

You love data… because of how it impacts decisions, makes for better products, and ultimately changes lives. You enjoy leading data teams, and interfacing with the business, product, and marketing teams that rely on data. You are proactive, collaborative, and communicative. You have built and maintained data pipelines in production at large scale and you are able to make technology decisions about tooling and operations. You love data and have great experience with the types of data engineering questions relevant to a freemium subscription/gaming business (engagement & monetization data, tooling for prediction & AB-testing etc.).

You’re looking to use your skills to work at a company that you actually care about (and that actually cares about you!). You are a seasoned data leader with intuitive strategic, communication and technical skills.

What you'll do

  • Develop a mature cross functional data culture including definitions and processes by which we govern reporting, analysis, and insights for all Chess.com properties and teams
  • Support our data team including both analysts and engineers as they serve our product, business, marketing, and operational needs
  • Support funnel optimizations with both proactive research and insight requests across product and marketing
  • Proactively support company-wide experimentation and results-sharing
  • Assure accurate reporting for business operations (bizops)
  • Along with our CTO and Data Team, oversee the buildout of data acquisition and data warehouse stacks
  • Optimize our Amplitude implementation and usage (and potential future transition to in-house solution)

Preferred Skills

  • 7+ years in data analysis and engineering
  • 5+ years in data leadership and people management
  • Experience in consumer / gaming funnel
  • Hands on experience with SQL, BigQuery, Airflow, Kafka, and Application Development
  • Worked at scale in a company with more than 10M MAU
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills working in a fully distributed team
  • Strong sense of ownership, responsibility, and appreciates the value of effective communication with both peers and non-technical teammates
  • Puts value building strong relationships with colleagues and partners, enjoys mentoring and guiding others and you have the ability to explain complex topics in simple terms
  • Proven track record of being proactive, planning effectively, and constructively finding paths forward when blockers arise

About the Opportunity

  • This is a full-time opportunity
  • We are 100% remote (work from USA or CA!)
  • This role is open to candidates who can work in American timezones
