This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Head of Category Management in the United States.

This is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and scaling enterprise-wide category strategy within a fast-growing e-commerce organization. You will lead a high-performing merchandising team and oversee category performance across multiple product lines, driving financial results, vendor strategy, and customer impact. The role combines strategic vision with hands-on leadership, requiring close partnership with executive stakeholders across the business. You will define long-term category frameworks, guide major assortment and sourcing decisions, and influence cross-functional priorities. Operating in a dynamic, high-growth environment, you will use data-driven insights to unlock growth opportunities and strengthen competitive positioning. This is a highly visible role with direct impact on revenue, margin, and overall business strategy.


Accountabilities

Lead the end-to-end category management function, setting strategic direction while ensuring strong execution across teams, vendors, and business units.

  • Develop and own long-term category vision aligned with organizational strategy and financial objectives
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Category Managers and associates, fostering accountability and performance excellence
  • Oversee category planning, assortment strategy, and major product and vendor decisions across multiple categories
  • Drive enterprise initiatives that improve financial performance, customer experience, and operational efficiency
  • Lead vendor negotiations, joint business planning, and strategic supplier partnerships
  • Own category financial performance, including revenue, margin, forecasting, and long-range planning
  • Collaborate with executive leadership across Marketing, Sales, Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations to align strategy and execution
  • Present insights, business cases, and performance updates to senior leadership and influence strategic priorities

Requirements

This role requires a seasoned merchandising and category management leader with strong analytical capabilities, executive presence, and experience leading teams in a fast-paced, data-driven environment.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 8+ years of experience in merchandising, category management, or product development
  • 3+ years of experience managing and developing remote or distributed teams
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing revenue, margin, and category performance targets
  • Advanced analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and retail or merchandising systems
  • Experience in forecasting, financial modeling, and data-driven decision-making
  • Strong executive communication skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives in complex, fast-moving environments
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and adaptability in high-growth settings
  • Ability to balance independent ownership with collaborative leadership
