In this role, you will play a key part in securing philanthropic funding that supports mission-driven programs at the intersection of data, AI, and social impact. You will develop compelling grant narratives that translate complex technical initiatives into clear, persuasive funding cases tailored to diverse philanthropic audiences. Working remotely with a collaborative and impact-focused team, you will help build and expand a sustainable funding pipeline for high-value programs. The role combines strategic research, storytelling, and hands-on proposal development, with direct influence on organizational growth and program delivery. You will engage closely with internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy and alignment across budgets, impact metrics, and program design. This is a highly autonomous contract role suited for a strong writer who thrives in fast-moving, purpose-driven environments.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing grant writing and fundraising support activities that directly contribute to organizational funding success:

Research and identify philanthropic funding opportunities aligned with organizational mission and strategic priorities
Build and manage a pipeline of potential funders, including foundations, corporate giving programs, and grant-making organizations
Draft, edit, and finalize high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documentation
Translate complex programmatic, technical, and AI/data science concepts into clear and compelling narratives for funders
Collaborate with internal teams to gather accurate program, budget, and impact data for submissions
Manage multiple proposal timelines and ensure all deliverables are completed accurately and on schedule
Contribute to fundraising strategy by supporting the development of donor-facing materials and collateral when needed

Requirements

You bring strong experience in grant writing and a proven ability to secure funding in competitive philanthropic environments:

Minimum 5+ years of experience in grant writing, ideally within nonprofit, social impact, or technology sectors
Proven track record of securing significant grants, including multi-year awards and funding of $500K+
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts
Experience writing successful proposals for philanthropic foundations, corporate funders, or competitive RFPs
Ability to translate AI, data science, or civic technology topics into accessible narratives for diverse audiences
Strong research skills and ability to identify and evaluate funding opportunities
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities independently
