Job Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical and strategic finance leader to drive the financial growth and operational efficiency of our organization. This role focuses on aligning financial strategy with company goals while optimizing processes and resources in a dynamic startup environment. As a key leader, you will oversee RCM, financial planning, cash flow management, and operational improvements across the organization.
You’ll also have the opportunity to build and lead a high-performing team of nearly 20 professionals and consultants, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. This position is ideal for a finance expert who thrives in fast-paced environments, wants to take on operational challenges, and is excited about driving efficiency and scalability. Better Health is creating a new medical provider type, disrupting the $80B home medical supply industry. How? By bundling peer support, coaching, education, and home delivery of medical supplies in an end-to-end care solution. We help our members discover and purchase the best medical equipment and supplies to address their underlying chronic conditions.Â
Since its inception in November 2019, Better Health has gained Medicare licenses in 46 states, 25 Medicaid licenses, and preferred national provider contracts with Oscar Health and Humana, among other payers. This has allowed our member base to rapidly grow month to month with virtually no churn. We are backed by Mosaic General Partnership, Caffeinated Capital, General Catalyst, Healthworx (CareFirst’s venture arm), 8VC, and Bill Ackman.Â
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Finance:
Partner with CEO and SVP, Strategy and Operations on leading financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Partner with leadership to define and execute long-term financial strategies that align with business objectives.
Analyze cost structures and recommend efficiency improvements to enhance margin & profitability.
Provide insights on revenue trends, operational KPIs, and financial performance to guide decision-making.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate growth opportunities, such as payer partnerships, new markets, or service expansions.
Revenue Cycle Management (RCM):Â
Improving Efficiencies:
Develop and implement strategies to optimize workflows, improve collection rates, reduce days in accounts receivable (AR), and minimize write-offs.
Enhance internal processes to reduce reliance on FTEs and consultants, enabling scalable and cost-effective operations.
Enhancing Reporting and Dashboards:
Design and implement advanced reporting tools to gain greater visibility into the team’s operations and track performance metrics.
Leverage data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement and informed decision-making.
Collaborating with Product and Engineering Teams:
Partner with product and engineering to build and deploy tools that enhance the team’s work, automate manual processes, and improve accuracy.
Work internally to align operational processes with technology advancements for maximum efficiency and scalability.
Additionally, you will:
Monitor payer contracts, identify underpayments, and lead resolution efforts with insurance providers.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory and payer requirements, including HIPAA and CMS guidelines.
Qualifications
Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field (MBA or CPA preferred).
7+ years of experience in strategic financial leadership roles, RCM, and healthcare finance are a big plus
Proven track record of building P&Ls, optimizing financial processes and driving financial growth
Experience working in a startup/high-growth environment
Experience with hiring and scaling teams, a demonstrated ability to retain talent and performance management
Player/coach mentality, ability to zoom in/out, and leading by example
Remote (willingness to travel to HQ as needed)
Nice-to-haves:
RCM operations experience, payer, health insurance experience
Understanding of healthcare billing, coding, HCPCS, payer processes, and regulatory requirements.
Familiarity with healthcare/digital health space
Skills:
Expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, and strategic planning.
Proficiency in finance and accounting software (e.g., Excel, QBO, or ERP systems).
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to use data to drive strategic decisions and operational improvements
Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovative solutions and process optimization
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively across all levels of the organization
