About the Role:
As a GIS Coordinator focused on municipal clients, you will design, build, and maintain spatial systems, geodata, and mapping tools that support critical workflows such as permitting, zoning, land use, infrastructure planning, asset management, inspections, and field operations. You’ll ensure local government agencies can analyze, visualize, and act on spatial data to make better decisions, meet regulatory requirements, and serve their communities effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, deploy, and maintain spatial databases and GIS platforms tailored to municipal workflows (e.g., zoning, permits, infrastructure parcels, street networks, utilities, code enforcement).
- Ensure spatial data model integrity: enforce consistent schemas, metadata standards, coordinate systems, projection accuracy, topologies, and data quality controls.
- Integrate GIS with other government / enterprise systems (e.g. permitting/licensing platforms, work-order management, public works systems, asset management, citizen portals, CRM/ERP).
- Build and maintain geoprocessing routines, spatial analytics (e.g. buffer analysis, overlays, proximity, network/travel time, slope/terrain, watershed, risk zones), and spatial modeling to support planning, inspections, compliance, and service delivery.
- Develop scripts, workflows or automated processes to ingest, clean, validate, and update spatial datasets (Python, SQL, ETL tools, APIs).
- Produce high-quality maps, dashboards, visualizations, and spatial reports for internal stakeholders, city planners, elected officials, and the public as needed.
- Support field data collection and integration (mobile GIS, GPS, tablets, inspections, as-built surveys), ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Collaborate with planning, permitting/licensing, public works, utilities, code/enforcement, and IT teams to translate their requirements into technical spatial solutions.
- Provide training, documentation, and technical support to non-GIS users (inspectors, planners, engineers, administrators) so they can effectively use spatial tools and interpret data.
- Stay current with GIS, remote sensing, LiDAR, and municipal data best practices; recommend improvements, governance, and standards to support scalability, performance, and compliance.
Required & Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geomatics, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, Computer Science, or related field - preferred
- Hands-on experience working with GIS platforms (e.g. ArcGIS Pro / Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, QGIS, PostGIS, geodatabase design). - required
- Proficiency in scripting, geoprocessing, and data automation tasks (Python, SQL, or other relevant tools) - required
- Strong familiarity with spatial data quality, coordinate systems, projections, metadata, and topology - required
- Experience engaging with municipal or public-sector clients (planning, permitting, infrastructure, utilities, public works) - preferred
- Excellent communication skills; able to bridge technical and non-technical audiences (planners, engineers, inspectors, administrators, elected officials) - required
- Experience with mobile GIS / field data collection workflows (GPS, tablets, inspections) - preferred
- Knowledge of infrastructure data types (roads, utilities, parcels, zoning layers, stormwater, flood zones, etc.) - required
- Certification (e.g. GISP) or relevant training - preferred
