Our client, a late-stage, private, product experience platform company is looking for a General Counsel/VP of Legal to support the company’s rapid growth, shape the global legal strategy and set the framework for the business’ continued expansion. This individual will lead a small team of legal professionals and will report directly to the CFO. They will serve as a strategic member of the leadership team and will be responsible for effectively balancing risk against critical business objectives. They bring a business-oriented perspective to legal issues and creativity to problem solving. Our client is looking for an “up and coming” modern day legal executive that has demonstrated leadership capability, is passionate about supporting the company’s growth objectives, and will chart the direction on a broad spectrum of legal, compliance and business issues for both the legal team and the broader business. This attorney will be a strategic thinker, but will also be ready, willing and able to roll up their sleeves when needed.


Location for this role will be in Raleigh, NC or New York, NY. Our client will selectively consider other geographic regions depending on the candidate.


Responsibilities will include:
  • Directing all aspects of global legal affairs at the company and ensuring business standards, policies and activities are well-managed in compliance with current laws.
  • Providing guidance to leadership on complex business transactions and company-wide initiatives.
  • Strong strategic partnerships with GTM and Product leaders to maximize revenues, minimize risk and foster long-term customer relationships
  • Ensuring that all company communications, contracts, documents, filings and press releases undergo appropriate legal review.
  • Staying abreast of changes to law and regulations and advising management about any impact to the business.
  • Proactively anticipating legal issues.
  • Managing outside counsel.
  • Growing and mentoring an internal legal team of business-oriented legal professionals.


Necessary Qualifications include:
  • J.D. degree; admitted to at least one state bar and in good standing to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status).
  • 12-15+ years of relevant legal experience
  • 4+ years managing a legal team at a B2B SAAS company.
  • Experience partnering closely with senior executives


Preferred Qualifications include:
  • Overall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, M&A, litigation, employment law, data privacy, compliance, etc.).
  • In-depth understanding of various legal issues’ impact on a growth stage, venture backed company.
  • Proven experience building and leading successful teams.
  • A track record of being highly accountable and driven by setting the foundations for the strategic direction of a fast-growing company.
  • Ability to simplify complex legal concepts and terms with a focus on critical business outcomes.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, agile environment with exceptional organizational skills and ability to re-prioritize on a constant basis.

The salary range is based on paying competitively for the company’s size and industry as well as the organization’s internal metrics, and are one part of many compensation, benefits and other reward opportunities that the company provides. The expected base salary range for this role is $300-350K, plus target bonus and equity.

Individual pay rate decisions, including offers made within and over the expected salary range, are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company.
