Pickford is building the next generation of storytelling. We're building expressive interactive narratives, while preserving storytelling's historical foundation as a tight loop between audience and creator. Our focus on story quality and audience engagement means we get to work with truly exceptional creators. Our AI expertise has attracted world-class researchers. Together we're defining a new category of media. All of this comes together in a UGC platform where creators can build, share, and collaborate on living stories which can only be powered by AI.

Position Overview:

We’re looking for a gameplay engineer who’s motivated by working with a team to solve tough, unusual problems. In this role you’ll work outside the traditional game development workflow to design and implement technology behind real-time, interactive stories at scale. Some days you might architect a system that allows manipulation of a running scene; others, you’ll integrate the latest research from our ML team into the animation or camera system.

We value people who ask “How can we make this work?” and who enjoy building solutions that don’t have obvious blueprints. You’ll work closely with a small, multidisciplinary team of engineers and storytellers who are committed to building something genuinely new.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work cross functionally to design, prototype, and build in-renderer systems that harness the latest AI models to orchestrate a 3D scene
  • Ensure visual fidelity across lighting, cameras, shaders, and animations to guarantee a positive viewer experience
  • Push beyond pre-built scenes and characters to allow for dynamic loading and creation of sets, objects, and characters
  • Co-create & implement creative storytelling strategies alongside Hollywood industry luminaries

  • Strong background in a major game engine (especially Unity) and writing unique functionality in C#
  • Experience with a wide swath of game development; including cameras, rigging, animations, lighting, scene building, character NPC AI, navigation meshes
  • You love digging your teeth into hard problems and solving them in nuanced ways
  • Comfortability with fast-paced development and high-risk, high-reward features
  • You love working with talented team members and they love working with you

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience at a major studio or software company
  • You’ve deployed and helped ship live-ops game
  • Comfortability working with art and product teams to iterate effectively
