About the Blog: Cued In

Cued In is J.W. Pepper’s editorial blog designed to serve and support school choral and instrumental music educators at all grade levels (elementary through high school). Our audience is composed of time-strapped music directors who rely on practical, insightful, and inspiring content to elevate their teaching and streamline their day-to-day work.

The Role

We’re seeking knowledgeable and passionate freelance content writers to contribute regularly to Cued In. Ideal candidates will have direct experience in music education, especially in choral or instrumental instruction, and a talent for crafting clear, engaging, and solution oriented content.

Writers should feel comfortable generating their own pitches or writing from provided themes.

Assignments will include evergreen topics, seasonal planning, classroom strategies, tech tips, and program-building advice.

Sample Topics Include:

• Efficient rehearsal strategies for large ensembles

• Assessment tools and grading in the music classroom

• Recruiting and retention tips for elementary, middle, and high school programs

• Programming ideas for concerts, festivals, or themed events

• Digital tools and technology that support music teaching

• Bridging pedagogical gaps between grade levels

• Music classroom management techniques

• Community outreach and advocacy for music programs

Requirements

What We’re Looking For:

• Strong writing skills with a clear, approachable tone

• Experience in music education (K–12 band, choir, orchestra, or general music)

• Ability to meet deadlines and revise based on editorial feedback

• Awareness of the challenges and needs of today’s music educators

• Familiarity with J.W. Pepper and its customer base is a plus

• SEO knowledge is a bonus, but not required
