Freelance: CFX Artist - New York

Framestore's New York studio is looking for CFX Artists to join us for an episodic project that is sure to be an adventure!

The CFX Artist is responsible for setting up skin, muscle, cloth and hair simulations for our hero and secondary characters and creatures. Other responsibilities include, maintaining and supporting those rigs/setups through production as well as running shots in production.

Ideal candidates MUST be available from April 14, 2025 - October 31, 2025 and be residents of New York and preferably able to work a hybrid schedule of 1-2 days per week in office. 

Responsibilities:

• Build, maintain and test simulation rigs and setups
• Develop tools to assist in building simulation rigs and running shot simulations
• Run simulations, perform technical animation and shot sculpting for shots in production
• Creatively troubleshoot and solve problems independently
• Receive and address technical and creative feedback from supervisors and leads

• An excellent knowledge of Houdini 
• Strong knowledge of Vellum, Vex, and other Houdini tools and workflows
• Excellent sense for physically based motion and understanding of animation principles
• Ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex topics relevant to CFX and connected departments
• Understanding of anatomy, physical motion, weight, and balance
• Strong problem solving skills
• Ability and willingness to multi-task
• Resident of New York
• Must have valid US work authorization

• Working knowledge of Python
• Experience in Linux

New York Employees Pay Range: 

Juniors (<1 year - 3 years experience): $25 - $35 per hour
Mids (4 - 6 years experience): $400 - $550 per day
Seniors (6+ years of experience): $600 - $900 per day

The posted range describes the minimum to maximum range for this job description in the state of New York. The range is posted in accordance with the New York Pay Transparency Bill. The range for this same position may be lower or higher in markets outside of New York City. Pay is dependent on the applicant's relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
