Purpose:
The Financial Controller serves as a key financial leader responsible for overseeing the comprehensive accounting operations of the organization, functioning as the primary guardian of financial integrity and operational transparency. This senior-level position maintains ultimate responsibility for the entire accounting ecosystem, including the strategic production and analysis of periodic financial reports, the meticulous maintenance of accounting records across multiple entities, and the design and enforcement of a robust, comprehensive set of controls to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy, reliability, and timeliness of financial reporting.
As a strategic partner to executive leadership, the Controller ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), FASB pronouncements, and applicable tax and business laws. This role requires strong technical expertise and the ability to translate complex financial data into meaningful insights that support high-level decision-making across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Direct all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with supporting schedules and analysis.
- Oversee the monthly and year-end close process to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, working with external auditors to ensure successful completion.
- Ensure intercompany transactions are properly documented, executed, and reconciled.
- Establish and maintain fiscal files and records to document transactions.
- Create and maintain a calendar of critical financial events and deadlines.
Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Partner with leadership to develop financial forecasts, budgets, and cash flow projections.
- Analyze financial data and create models to evaluate business performance and opportunities.
- Provide strategic recommendations based on financial analysis and projections.
- Identify trends and opportunities for improvement; implement best practices.
- Support CFO with special projects and ad-hoc analysis.
- Maintain critical spreadsheets previously imported from NetSuite into the Rillet environment.
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Monitor adherence to internal control policies and procedures.
- Stay current on financial regulations and accounting standards.
- Oversee tax compliance and planning including federal, state, and local filings.
- Manage regulatory reporting and ensure organizational compliance.
- Ensure historical financial data is properly transferred and reconciled during system transitions.
Treasury & Cash Management:
- Oversee cash flow planning and ensure availability of funds as needed.
- Optimize banking relationships and cash position strategies.
- Manage investment and debt strategies in accordance with company policy.
- Implement effective collections processes, including automated dunning procedures.
- Ensure secure check printing and payment authorization processes.
Systems & Process Improvement:
- Evaluate and implement financial systems to improve efficiency and data accuracy.
- Identify opportunities for automation within the finance function.
- Lead implementation projects related to financial system upgrades.
- Develop and maintain documentation for all financial systems and processes.
- Ensure Rillet financials match NetSuite financials during transition.
- Implement effective time tracking audits to support accurate T&M billing.
- Explore Salesforce integration with financial systems.
Other Duties:
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief of Finance and Administration.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA certification.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a management role.
- Proven experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Experience implementing accounting systems and internal controls.
- Strong experience managing intercompany transactions and complex organizational structures.
- Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling and analysis.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or additional certifications such as CMA, CIA, or MBA.
- Experience in a similar industry.
- Experience with payroll systems and administration.
- Proficiency in accounting and ERP systems (Rillet preferred).
- Familiarity with CRM systems (preferably Salesforce).
- Understanding of IT general controls and system integration concepts.
- Knowledge of time tracking systems and T&M billing.
Working Environment:
- Full-time position with flexible working hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern time zone).
- Occasional travel (up to 25%) may be required to attend conferences and industry events to stay informed about financial innovation and regulatory updates.
