Program Summary:
We are pleased to present an exciting externship opportunity with EIP’s Frontier Team. This part-time externship is designed to provide an immersive experience in climate tech investing, with the student dedicating 12-15 hours per week for the semester. The extern will support our investment team in various aspects of thematic research, market analysis, and deal sourcing. By the end of the program, the extern will deliver a final presentation including an investment recommendation on select startups.
Primary Deliverables and Learning Outcomes:
Market and Thematic Research Development
- Conduct comprehensive market mapping exercises to identify promising startups and relevant trends within key climate tech segments.
- Coordinate calls and information sessions with internal teams, external VCs, and industry experts, providing essential pre-meeting research and follow-up notes.
- Maintain regular documentation of thematic research insights, including updated competitor analyses and sector overviews.
Final Presentation and Investment Recommendation
- Develop a 15-20 page slide deck synthesizing market findings, key players, and comparative benchmarks.
- Craft an investment thesis for 1-2 startups that align with our fund’s investment priorities, presenting the opportunity to the deal team.
- Present the deck and recommendation at the end of the externship, articulating key insights, risks, and growth potential of the selected startups.
Networking and Relationship Building
- Establish a network of contacts within the climate tech industry, including fellow venture capitalists, bankers, and industry experts.
Weekly Workflow:
- Time Commitment: 12-15 hours per week
- Weekly Check-ins: Regular progress meetings with assigned supervisor(s) to discuss recent findings, address questions, and outline weekly goals.
- Monthly Reviews: Participate in monthly debriefs with the broader investment team to showcase progress and gain feedback on research insights.
Requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA candidates with a demonstrated interest in climate tech, sustainability, or venture capital.
- Strong research, analytical, and communication skills.
- Prior experience in finance, consulting, engineering, or climate technology is beneficial but not required.
Benefits
Compensation for this role is $45/hour, 12-15 hours/week.
