Engineering Manager (Institutional - Exchange)

This role offers the opportunity to lead and scale engineering teams responsible for mission-critical systems supporting institutional financial products. You will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate strategic vision into actionable roadmaps while ensuring high-quality delivery of distributed systems. You will drive technical excellence, mentor engineers, and shape team culture, contributing to both operational efficiency and innovation. This position involves hands-on problem solving, decision-making on architecture, and leadership in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This role requires active engagement in-person during offsites and collaborative sessions throughout the year.

Accountabilities:

·         Lead engineering teams building critical systems for institutional products, including trading, custody, and exchange platforms.

·         Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define roadmaps, break down complex projects, and drive iterative design and implementation.

·         Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to ensure scalable, reliable, and high-quality systems.

·         Coach and mentor engineers to support career growth and enhance team impact.

·         Partner with talent teams to recruit top engineering talent aligned with organizational culture and values.

·         Contribute to processes that improve engineering quality, operational standards, and service level agreements.

·         Participate hands-on when needed, including coding, code review, incident management, and troubleshooting complex issues.

Requirements

·         7+ years of experience in software engineering.

·         1+ year of engineering management experience, leading teams in complex technical environments.

·         Experience designing, delivering, and operating multi-tenant, distributed systems at scale.

·         Ability to balance long-term strategic planning with short-term execution.

·         Hands-on technical skills including coding, system troubleshooting, and participating in on-call rotations.

·         Passion for building open financial systems and solving challenging technical problems.

·         Experience in blockchain, cryptocurrency, or financial systems is a plus.

·         Familiarity with technologies such as Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Sinatra, or Postgres is beneficial.

·         Experience managing rapid team growth and mentoring engineers in high-performance environments.
