This is a player-coach role where you will not only lead, mentor, and manage a talented team of engineers (including junior, intermediate, and senior developers) but also contribute technically through hands-on coding, design reviews, and architectural input. You'll spend a portion of your time developing software solutions alongside your team, staying current with technical challenges while building highly-modular, core systems of record from the ground up, introducing automation into complex government workflows and developing new models for interaction between governments and citizens.Reporting to the<a href="https://www.linkedin.com/in/hermanccw/"> VP of Engineering, Herman Chan </a>you will be instrumental in driving the execution of your team, ensuring the sustainable delivery of high-quality software that delivers significant business and customer impact. You will run a tight ship, fostering a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and continuous learning, while actively partnering with product management and other stakeholders to define strategy and achieve ambitious goals. You will play a vital role in building both the technology and the team that supports solutions used daily by both citizens and government employees.As an Engineering Manager, for Clariti Launch contributing to roadmaps and objective documents that shape our platform strategy.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Provide technical guidance and mentorship to your engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and best practices.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Evaluate and execute on new technologies with your team, pushing for innovation and technical excellence across our technology technologies.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Partner with Staff Engineers and architects to ensure alignment with overall technical strategy and company-wide technical initiatives.</li></ul></li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Technical Contribution & Strategy:<ul><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Actively contribute to the codebase through design, coding, and comprehensive code reviews alongside your team, maintaining proficiency in our core technology stack (Ruby/Rails, React, Expo, Postgres, K8S, AWS).</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Provide technical guidance, lead technical design discussions, review architecture, and ensure alignment with overall technical strategy, consulting with Staff Engineers where appropriate.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Help define, track, and ensure team alignment on quarterly Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), connecting team efforts to broader company objectives and desired outcomes.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Assess and maintain a high bar for technical aptitude in new hires, contributing to technical interviewing and evaluation processes.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Push for best-practices in our technology stack and across our company, ensuring code quality, performance, and maintainability.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Guide your team in introducing automation into some of the most complex government workflows, leveraging technical expertise to solve challenging problems.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Oversee the design and implementation of backend systems that scale to support agencies and citizens across the country.</li></ul></li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Collaborate & Influence:<ul><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Partner with our Product team to explore new possibilities, represent Engineering perspectives, and translate business needs into technical solutions.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Build healthy partnerships with cross-functional teams (Product Management, Design, other Engineering teams), effectively influencing outcomes and technical decisions.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Communicate technical decisions and architectural choices effectively, ensuring context, understanding, and alignment across teams.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Identify new technical opportunities that have significant customer, organizational, or platform-wide impact.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Actively participate in hiring, interviewing, and assessment processes to build and retain a diverse and talented team.</li></ul></li></ul>What do you bring to the team? 🧠<ul><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Proven Leadership: Minimum of 3+ years of direct people management experience in a software engineering environment. This is not a first-time management role.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Technical Expertise: 4+ years of industry experience developing SaaS-based solutions with demonstrated ability to develop cloud-based applications, combined with hands-on management experience.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Platform Development: Strong foundation in backend development and API design, with experience building scalable, maintainable systems that serve multiple clients.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Technology Stack: Demonstrable experience with our core tech stack: Ruby/Rails, React, Expo, Postgres, K8S, AWS, with the ability to guide team development in others.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Coaching Acumen: Proven ability to coach and mentor engineers across all levels (junior, intermediate, senior), fostering professional development and helping build career paths.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Technical Judgment: Incredible attention to detail along with a keen sense for when enough is enough - balancing perfectionism with pragmatic delivery while guiding your team to do the same.</li><li style="font-size: 10pt;">Execution Excellence: Strong project and team management skills.
