Hims & Hers seeks an experienced, self-motivated, and results-driven Backend Engineering Manager. The candidate must be a leader, have a strong process architecture mindset and system implementation experience, and have the ability to grow engineering teams. In this role, you will work closely with technical program managers, product managers and business sponsors to deliver systems, process, and platform solutions to meet Hims & Hers business needs for our Ecommerce platform and operations. You will also be instrumental in ensuring our backend systems are robust, scalable, and flexible for the needs of our growing, fast-paced business.
Lead, mentor, and coach a team of backend engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment
Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations
Collaborate with HR in hiring and onboarding new team members
Define and execute the technical roadmap for a backend domain team, aligning it with the company's strategic goals
Ensure the engineering team follows best practices, coding standards, and maintains code quality
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to make informed technical decisions
Partner with technical program managers to plan, prioritize, and manage the development of backend features and projects, ensuring on-time delivery
Work closely with product managers to define project requirements, scope, and timelines
Identify and mitigate technical risks and issues
Collaborate with other engineering teams, including front-end, DevOps, and data engineering, to ensure seamless integration of backend services
Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements and provide project updates
Implement and maintain robust testing and quality assurance processes to ensure the reliability and performance of backend systems
Ensure resolution of production issues and incidents promptly
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
7+ years of experience in development, with a strong background in backend systems
Ideally 3+ years of experience in a leadership or managerial role, with a track record of building and managing high-performing engineering teams
Proficiency in Java, Kotlin or other OOP languages and web frameworks
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
