Agile Six is a people-first, remote-work company that serves shoulder-to-shoulder with federal agencies to find innovative, human-centered solutions. We build better by putting people first. We are animated by our core values of Purpose, Wholeness, Trust, Self-Management and Inclusion. We deliver our solutions in autonomous teams of self-managed professionals (no managers here!) who genuinely care about each other and the work. We know that’s our company’s purpose – and that we can only achieve it by supporting a culture where people feel valued, self-managed, and love to come to work.

The role

Agile Six is looking for an Engineering Lead to join a newly formed team partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs to enhance the digital tools Veterans use to manage their benefits, including the Claim Status Tool, decision review forms, and related services on VA.gov and the VA Health and Benefits mobile app. Efforts will include improving clarity of evidence requests, expanding claim status visibility, modernizing back-end systems, and increasing accessibility and usability—especially for decision notification and appeal processes—to better support Veterans and claimants through critical moments in their benefits journey.

Generally, our team looks for someone interested in and capable of working across the tech stack, and in using both front and back end languages and frameworks. Our ideal candidate is patient, curious, proactive, and positive; someone who understands the large impact that even small changes can have on end users, someone able to learn a complex landscape and innovate, someone who constantly seizes opportunities to refine, and someone who is dedicated to accessibility and championing the impact of our work. Most importantly, we are looking for someone with a passion for working on important problems that have a lasting impact on millions of users and make a difference in our government.

Please note that this is a Key Personnel role, as stipulated by our contract, considered "essential to work performance". The resumes of Key Personnel are subject to government review and approval, and any changes to Key Personnel (such as voluntary or involuntary separation) may require government oversight.

Responsibilities

This role centers on crafting components and service APIs, using various frameworks and architectures to thoughtfully integrate advanced features.
