ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Engagement Manager is a client account owner and team leader. You will be responsible for leading at least two client accounts while providing strategic support to others, ensuring our work consistently aligns with our clients’ business development, policy, go-to-market, and fundraising goals.

This role is designed for a professional who is equally comfortable navigating a complex regulatory filing as they are scoping and helping our clients execute a new sales strategy to drive near term revenue. You will interface directly with clients to lead accounts, mentor junior staff, own the "so what" of short-term deliverables and long-term account strategy, and play a proactive role in growing AHG’s business through scoping and referrals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Account Leadership: Serve as the primary project manager for at least 2 clients and provide lead support for up to 2 additional accounts, ensuring work product meets exacting standards before executive review.
  • Strategic Delivery: Own and deliver end-to-end on multiple workstreams, navigating complex and uncertain situations to distinguish between true market opportunities and distractions.
  • Client Management: Ensure day-to-day account work is on track and aligned with client expectations, while tracking towards longer-term account objectives and lead the "scoping" of new potential engagements with minimal guidance from leadership.
  • Mentorship: Provide direct mentorship and support to Senior Associates, Associates, and interns to foster their professional growth.
  • Business Growth: Play an active role in AHG’s BD process, helping to qualify, advance, and close new opportunities and clients aligned with AHG’s values and strengths
  • Policy & Sales Synergy: Distill key insights from regulatory, legislative, and market dynamics into compelling narratives that drive business outcomes for our clients.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Experience: 7+ years of experience in the energy industry working for a startup, consulting firm, investment firm, utility, and/or in government, and demonstrated a clear trajectory of increasing responsibility and excellence. At least 2 years of startup experience is strongly preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. MPP, MBA or related Masters strongly preferred
  • Domain Expertise: Demonstrated subject matter expertise in at least one relevant vertical (e.g., building electrification, advanced transmission, resilience, e-mobility) and a hunger to expand your knowledge in other areas.
  • Functional Expertise: Demonstrated functional expertise in sales and go-to-market related functions (e.g. sales operations, enterprise sales, product marketing), and/or energy policy and regulation (e.g. state PUC regulation, ISO/RTOs), and a commitment to learning both functions.
  • Outcome Ownership: A track record of pursuing and delivering measurable business outcomes with an owner’s sense of urgency and relentlessness.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to quickly identify what matters most to a client’s business and adjust strategies to meet shifting priorities.
  • Communication Mastery: Exceptional ability to communicate "the so-what" concisely to senior level client representatives and external stakeholders, and to keep internal teams informed and aligned.
  • Network: A growing network of trusted relationships across the energy ecosystem that can be leveraged for business development, strategic insights, or client outcomes.
  • Startup Mindset: Demonstrated comfort operating in fast-moving, ambiguous environments where processes and organizational norms are still being defined.
  • Team Work: You are a “yes-and” person who is positive, motivates those around you with your enthusiasm, and resolves disagreements quickly and empathetically.

LOCATION:

Strong preference for candidates based in an AHG hub city: Washington D.C., San Francisco, or New York City. Team members in hub cities are expected to be in the office at least one day a week. AHG is a hybrid/remote firm. Up to 10-15% travel is expected for client work and team retreats.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Salary Range: Starting pay for this role typically ranges from $145,000 – $170,000, commensurate with skills and experience. Final pay is determined based on factors such as experience, geography, internal equity, and other job-related considerations.

Bonus & Equity: Eligible for an annual discretionary bonus (targeting 10%+) and participation in the company’s Equity Incentive Plan, which provides employees an opportunity to share in the future growth and success of AHG and its clients.

Benefits: Comprehensive medical/dental/vision, 401(k) with 3% employer contribution, $1,500 professional development stipend, 14 weeks paid parental leave, and flexible PTO.

INTERVIEW PROCESS AND TIMELINE:

  • Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis through May 15.
  • Interviews will take place in May and June
  • Finalists will be asked to complete and present a short skills assessment.
  • Depending on feasibility and location, final in-person interviews will take place following the skills assessment presentation.
  • We expect to extend an offer in late June.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship, now or in the future
