The Director, Thought Leader Engagement & Peer-to-Peer Marketing will lead the development and execution of strategic external engagement initiatives within the hematology space. This senior leadership role will shape how healthcare experts, customers, and industry stakeholders are engaged through innovative education, peer-to-peer programs, and insight-driven strategies. You will oversee teams responsible for thought leader relationships, faculty development, and customer education while translating market insights into impactful business strategies. The role requires strong collaboration across marketing, medical, sales, analytics, and commercial functions to drive portfolio success. Accountabilities:

The Director, Thought Leader Engagement & Peer-to-Peer Marketing will be responsible for building an industry-leading external engagement capability that connects expert insights, educational strategies, and commercial objectives. This role will provide strategic direction, lead high-performing teams, and ensure impactful execution across thought leader engagement and peer-to-peer initiatives.

  • Develop and execute an integrated external engagement strategy covering key external expert relationships, faculty development, speaker programs, advisory boards, and peer-to-peer education.
  • Establish strategic priorities aligned with portfolio goals, brand objectives, customer needs, and future launch strategies.
  • Lead and develop field-based thought leader engagement teams and peer-to-peer marketing professionals, fostering collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strong relationships with national, regional, and local healthcare experts while ensuring effective identification, segmentation, and engagement planning.
  • Translate external insights from expert interactions, congresses, advisory boards, and educational programs into actionable recommendations for business strategy.
  • Lead peer-to-peer education strategies, including speaker recruitment, faculty development, certification programs, and educational initiatives across multiple channels.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, Analytics, Compliance, Legal, Regulatory, and Commercial Excellence to align strategic priorities.
  • Establish performance metrics, dashboards, and measurement frameworks to evaluate engagement effectiveness and business impact.
  • Oversee congress strategy, external meeting planning, insight collection, and optimization of educational investments.
  • Manage budgets, agency relationships, vendors, and operational resources while ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Recruit, coach, and develop high-performing teams while building capabilities to support future growth and organizational success.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced pharmaceutical or biotechnology leader with a strong background in oncology, commercial strategy, and external stakeholder engagement. This role requires strategic thinking, executive presence, and the ability to influence across complex organizations while delivering measurable business outcomes.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree such as MBA, Master’s, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • 7+ years of oncology experience with strong understanding of hematology or related therapeutic areas preferred.
  • Proven experience in marketing, sales leadership, account management, thought leader engagement, or commercial strategy roles.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams, developing talent, and managing geographically distributed organizations.
  • Experience creating and executing strategic engagement programs, educational initiatives, and commercial strategies.
  • Strong scientific, business, and commercial understanding with the ability to translate insights into strategic action.
  • Experience managing speaker bureaus, faculty development programs, advisory boards, and peer-to-peer education initiatives.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with experience using data and insights to influence decision-making and optimize investments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence senior executives and operate effectively within a complex matrix environment.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budget planning, resource allocation, and investment optimization.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50–70%, including occasional weekends.
  • Adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable leading through change and ambiguity.
