This strategic leadership role is responsible for shaping and executing US payer marketing strategies that ensure optimal access, reimbursement, and value positioning for a growing portfolio of innovative specialty therapies. The Director of Payer Marketing will operate at the intersection of market access, medical affairs, HEOR, and commercial teams to develop compelling payer value narratives and evidence-based strategies that support both current and pipeline assets. This role requires deep expertise in the US payer ecosystem and the ability to translate complex market dynamics into actionable, high-impact strategies. You will play a key role in anticipating access challenges, influencing payer engagement approaches, and ensuring alignment across internal and external stakeholders. The position is highly cross-functional and requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence without formal authority. This is a critical role in enabling patient access to transformative therapies in a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape.
Accountabilities:- Develop and lead the US payer marketing strategy for current and pipeline assets, ensuring alignment with brand and lifecycle objectives
- Monitor and interpret evolving payer dynamics, including policy changes, access restrictions, and reimbursement trends, translating insights into actionable strategies
- Create and maintain differentiated payer value narratives grounded in clinical, economic, and real-world evidence
- Partner with HEOR, Market Access, and Medical teams to develop payer-relevant tools such as AMCP dossiers, value decks, and budget impact models
- Serve as the internal voice of the payer, synthesizing insights from commercial, government, and PBM stakeholders to guide strategy
- Ensure consistent payer messaging across assets, adapting to evolving evidence and competitive market conditions
- Lead access and reimbursement strategy development in collaboration with field teams, including coverage, coding, and prior authorization support
- Identify and proactively address barriers to access, developing solutions to improve patient affordability and treatment uptake
- Support launch planning for pipeline assets, including payer segmentation, evidence planning, and early engagement strategies
- Lead cross-functional alignment with Legal, Compliance, Medical, and Field teams to ensure strategic and regulatory consistency
- Drive payer advisory boards and external engagement initiatives to inform strategy and strengthen relationships
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry, with strong focus on market access, payer marketing, or related commercial strategy roles
- 5–7+ years of experience specifically in payer marketing or access-focused functions
- Strong background in specialty or biologic therapies, ideally within immunology, neurology, or rare disease areas
- Experience with buy-and-bill models and complex reimbursement environments
- Proven ability to develop payer value narratives and access strategies supported by clinical and economic evidence
- Strong cross-functional leadership experience working with Market Access, HEOR, Medical, and Commercial teams
- Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder influence skills, including ability to lead without formal authority
- Experience supporting both marketed products and pipeline/launch assets
- Advanced degree (MBA, MPH, PharmD, or equivalent) preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
