This senior leadership role oversees field operations across large-scale heavy civil construction projects, with a strong focus on earthmoving and environmental remediation work. The position plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable project delivery across multiple sites and teams. It requires a strategic operator who can translate corporate objectives into disciplined execution in the field. The role combines hands-on operational oversight with high-level planning, risk management, and performance optimization. You will lead cross-functional coordination across project management, safety, engineering, and equipment teams. This is a highly impactful position in a fast-growing infrastructure environment where safety, compliance, and execution excellence are central to success.


Accountabilities

The Director of Operations provides strategic and operational leadership across multiple concurrent heavy civil construction projects, ensuring alignment with safety, budget, schedule, and quality expectations.

  • Lead and oversee field operations for large-scale earthmoving and environmental remediation projects, ensuring consistent execution standards across sites
  • Drive project performance from planning through execution and closeout, including cost control, production tracking, and schedule adherence
  • Develop and enforce operational best practices, standardized procedures, and performance metrics across all projects
  • Manage and mentor Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership teams to strengthen execution capability and accountability
  • Oversee risk identification and mitigation, including claims support, change management, and dispute resolution
  • Champion safety and environmental compliance, ensuring adherence to OSHA, MSHA, and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate equipment strategy and resource allocation to optimize productivity and fleet utilization
  • Support estimating, preconstruction, and business development efforts through operational insights and constructability input

Requirements

This role requires deep experience in heavy civil construction operations, strong leadership capability, and proven success managing complex, multi-project environments.

  • 15+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, including large-scale earthmoving or infrastructure projects
  • Strong background in operational leadership across multi-site or multi-project environments
  • Experience managing project budgets, forecasting, cost controls, and financial performance
  • Deep understanding of safety standards and environmental compliance in construction settings
  • Proven ability to lead and develop field and project management teams
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in complex environments
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and executive audiences
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience preferred
  • Experience with environmental remediation or regulated infrastructure projects is a plus
