As the Director of Engineering, you will oversee the development and management of our cloud infrastructure. You will be responsible for leading multiple teams, setting technical direction, and ensuring the highest levels of cost-effective performance, reliability, and scalability. You will drive creative projects to simplify and abstract our infrastructure to be self-serve, reducing cognitive load for the rest of the engineering team.

• Set the strategic direction for cloud infrastructure and deliver a reliable and flexible platform that sends billions of messages per day
• Hire, coach, and lead intelligent and driven engineering leaders to foster a culture of  continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence
• Oversee the architecture and implementation of Kubernetes and other container orchestration to streamline elastic infrastructure with self-serve tooling
• Drive the evolution of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) orchestration using tools like Terraform and Spacelift to ensure consistent, repeatable, automated deployments
• Define and support best practices for monitoring, alerting, and incident management, utilizing tools like CloudWatch, Datadog, and Observability Pipelines
• Manage relationships with third-party vendors and own the budget for infrastructure, balancing innovation with cost management

• 10+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing managers
• Experience implementing and maintaining disaster recovery, business continuity, and security measures to protect organizational assets and ensure high availability
• Deep understanding of large-scale cloud infrastructure on AWS, Kubernetes (K8s), and modern DevOps practices and tools
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools, such as Prometheus, Grafana, DataDog, and CloudWatch
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with a history of translating business objectives into platform strategy and influencing and inspiring at all levels of the organization

• 8,000 brands powered by Attentive sent over 2.2 billion text messages over Cyber Week 2023 (Black Friday/Cyber Monday) representing a growth of 31% from 2022
• We sent 32 billion SMS messages in 2023, up 32% YoY. That’s an average of 87 million per day
• Our production cluster contains over 18,000 containers which serve 200+ services
• Our streaming services process over 80 billion events per month

• We use a wide variety of technology and we’re always looking for the best solutions to solve hard problems
• Our backend is Java / Spring Boot microservices, built with Gradle, coupled with things like DynamoDB, Pulsar, AirFlow, Postgres, Planetscale, and Redis, hosted via AWS
• Our frontend is built with React and TypeScript, and uses best practices like GraphQL, Storybook, Radix UI, Vite, esbuild, and Playwright

- The standard base salary range for this position is $232,000 - $315,000 annually + equity + benefits
