This role is a senior engineering leadership position at the center of large-scale distributed systems powering cloud-native observability at massive scale. You will lead and grow a high-performing engineering organization responsible for the development and evolution of a globally used logs database system. Operating within a fast-moving, remote-first environment, you will shape technical direction while ensuring delivery of reliable, scalable, and efficient data infrastructure. The role blends people leadership, technical depth, and product alignment, requiring close collaboration with cross-functional partners in product, design, and engineering. You will contribute directly to defining roadmap priorities while fostering a culture of experimentation, psychological safety, and continuous improvement. Accountabilities:- Lead and scale a distributed engineering organization of 20+ engineers, including managing managers and supporting career development, coaching, and performance management.
- Define and execute the technical and product strategy for large-scale log database systems, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals.
- Oversee end-to-end software delivery across planning, development, and post-launch phases, ensuring high-quality and reliable outcomes.
- Drive architecture and engineering decisions for distributed systems, ensuring scalability, fault tolerance, performance, and observability.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering leadership to shape roadmap priorities based on customer needs and market signals.
- Foster a culture of innovation, ownership, and psychological safety, enabling teams to experiment, iterate, and improve continuously.
- Partner across teams and functions to solve complex technical and customer problems and contribute beyond direct team boundaries.
- Integrate AI-assisted tools and modern engineering practices into team workflows to improve velocity and effectiveness.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a senior engineering leader (Director level) managing large engineering teams, including managers.
- Strong background in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, or large-scale data platforms.
- Demonstrated success leading complex engineering initiatives from ideation through delivery in fast-paced environments.
- Experience working in remote, global, and cross-cultural organizations with strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Deep understanding of scalability, reliability, consistency, and observability principles in distributed architectures.
- Strong customer-centric mindset, with the ability to translate user needs into technical direction and product decisions.
- Ability to manage ambiguity, align stakeholders, and drive execution in evolving environments.
- Experience leveraging modern development practices and familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools is highly valued.
