This role is a senior product leadership position focused on shaping and governing property insurance product strategy, with a strong emphasis on California-specific lines. You will lead a team responsible for developing underwriting guidelines, rate recommendations, and product enhancements that ensure financial performance and regulatory compliance. The position combines strategic oversight with deep analytical work, leveraging data, market insights, and actuarial collaboration to optimize product outcomes. You will play a critical role in translating complex insurance regulations and policy frameworks into actionable product strategies. In addition, you will guide cross-functional initiatives spanning underwriting, actuarial, compliance, and operations teams. This is a highly influential leadership role requiring both technical insurance expertise and strong people management capabilities.


Accountabilities:

Lead and manage the Product function, serving as the primary decision-maker for California property product strategy, underwriting guidelines, and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Manage, coach, and develop the Product team, including hiring, performance management, and organizational planning based on workload and business needs.
  • Oversee research, analysis, and testing of product changes, rate adjustments, policy updates, and channel enhancements.
  • Collaborate closely with actuarial and compliance teams to prepare rate filings, underwriting rules, and respond to regulatory inquiries.
  • Ensure accurate development and maintenance of underwriting manuals, policy forms, applications, disclosures, and related documentation.
  • Analyze performance metrics and underwriting data to identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements, tools, and strategic changes.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve underwriting performance, product effectiveness, and operational execution across the organization.
  • Develop executive-level presentations and recommendations to support strategic product and pricing decisions.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 10+ years of experience in product management or product leadership within California property insurance, with strong expertise in underwriting and regulatory environments.
  • 5+ years of experience managing and developing product teams in a structured organizational setting.
  • Strong knowledge of property and casualty insurance policy language, including homeowners, dwelling, and commercial property products.
  • Solid understanding of insurance rate-making principles, underwriting frameworks, and regulatory filing processes.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to build business cases and recommend data-driven product improvements.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and regulatory audiences.
  • Ability to work independently in a highly regulated, detail-oriented, and fast-paced environment.
