THE DIRECTOR, DATA AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING POSITION
We seek a Director of Software Engineering to lead a mix of software and data engineering teams responsible for building out Sunnova’s data platform. Your scope will include both the data warehouse and the energy services software based on this data: solar/storage production simulation, battery dispatch, and short-range production and consumption forecasting. In this role, you will work closely with engineering leadership and other senior leaders in the company to implement a comprehensive data warehouse strategy and platform to monitor Sunnova’s fleet of renewable energy assets.
DIRECTOR, DATA AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING RESPONSIBILITIES
•Lead and manage a diverse group of software and data engineering teams, including data analyst/business intelligence engineers.
•Outline and drive end-to end execution of Sunnova's data warehouse strategy, from raw data ingestion to end-user reporting. Participate in data governance strategy.
•Collaborate with senior leadership to define and implement the company's technological vision and long-term strategy.
•Drive the adoption of best engineering practices, coding standards, and quality assurance processes across the organization.
•Champion the exploration and integration of cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions to enhance product offerings.
•Provide strategic guidance and technical expertise in the development of complex and large-scale software systems, with an emphasis on data warehouse architecture and design.
•Evaluate and implement software development methodologies and tools to streamline workflows and enhance productivity.
•Monitor industry trends and advancements to identify opportunities for business growth and improvement.
•Act as a key influencer in resource allocation, budgeting, and talent acquisition to support organizational objectives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
•Minimum 8+ years of experience in analytics, data engineering, software engineering, or a related field.
•Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects, and development teams in an Agile environment.
•Knowledge of data engineering pipelines and orchestration (dbt, Fivetran), cloud solutions, ETL management, databases (Snowflake, AWS Redshift), and visualization and analytics platforms (Tableau, Power BI).
•Proficiency with SQL and Python programming language.
•Experience with high-volume data, as well as designing high-performance and scalable systems on AWS.
•Experience leading and hiring a team of software engineers, data engineers, business intelligence engineers, and data analysts.
•Experience in planning, designing and delivering cross-functional custom data, reporting and software solutions.
•Excellent emotional intelligence (EQ) and experience communicating with business stakeholders and senior/executive leadership teams.
•Legally authorized to work in the US for ANY employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor’s Degree.
•Experience in energy industry (solar, wholesale or retail electricity)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
•Extended period of time working at a computer workstation.
