About the role
As a DevOps Engineer, you will collaborate closely with operations teams to understand existing processes, identify bottlenecks, and develop solutions that modernize legacy architectures. You will help automate business processes and support modernization efforts, such as cloud migrations and application containerization.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with operations teams to understand current processes and pain points, and propose modernization strategies.
- Develop solutions that automate manual business processes and streamline operations.
- Work with complex satellite-based data at all stages including ingest, processing, and dissemination.
- Support efforts to modernize legacy systems, including cloud migrations, containerizations, and infrastructure updates.
- Design and implement cloud-based solutions in AWS environments.
- Leverage DevOps practices such as infrastructure as code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, and configuration management to ensure efficient deployment and scalability.
- Design, implement, and optimize monitoring systems using the TIG stack (Telegraf, InfluxDB, Grafana).
- Work in agile environments, participating in sprints and iterative development to deliver high-quality software products.
- Deploy applications in containerized environments (e.g., Docker) and ensure smooth integration in mixed Linux and Windows environments.
Qualifications
- Expertise in cloud software and AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, CloudFormation).
- Hands-on experience developing solutions in AWS cloud environments.
- Previous experience modernizing legacy architectures and applications and implementing automated solutions.
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience deploying and optimizing the TIG stack (Telegraf, InfluxDB, Grafana).
- Expertise with containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-native solutions.
- Familiarity with both Windows and Linux operating environments.
- Experience with Bash shell scripting, Perl, Python, and/or C#.
- Experience with Jira projects and Confluence for documentation and collaboration.
- Experience supporting federal government mission environments, especially NOAA/NESDIS, is highly preferred.
Education and Experience
- BS in Computer Science, Engineering, related disciplines or equivalent.
- 6+ years of experience in software development/engineering.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident who has lived in the United States for at least 3 of the last 5 years and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government facilities and systems.
