Sustainable Surf dba Seatrees is a nonprofit on a mission to restore coastal ecosystems and reverse climate change - one tree, one reef, and one kelp forest at a time. We work with local communities around the world to plant and protect coastal marine ecosystems like mangroves, seagrass meadows, kelp forests, coral reefs, and coastal watersheds.

Job Description

Under the direction of the Partnerships Director, we are looking for a Development Associate to help grow the fundraising capability of the organization. The Development Associate will organize and manage the important organizational and administrative tasks surrounding fundraising and project management. This includes working within our fundraising software platforms, Salesforce and Shopify, to ensure accurate information and data, run reports and sales projections, and provide support to other team members. 

The Development Associate will also help communicate the value proposition of the company to potential donors. This includes producing pitch decks and pitch documents, in conjunction with the Communications and Projects teams.  

This is an opportunity to work closely with a dynamic team in a rapidly growing organization. The ideal candidate will have an excellent attitude and desire to work in a fast-paced environment. This position is based out of our Manhattan Beach office location and requires weekly in-office presence.

 

 

Job Responsibilities                            

  • Provide support to the business development and executive teams, including scheduling meetings, phone calls, travel, and event coordination,

  • Maintain donor data in Salesforce and prepare reports for management,

  • Produce pitch decks and pitch documents in coordination with communications and projects teams,

  • Help maintain Seatrees ecosystem impact data in Salesforce,

  • Work with the communications team to coordinate targeted fundraising campaigns that reference donor data,

  • Draft correspondence, prepare donation receipts, thank you letters, and other donor communication,

  • Manage online merchandise sales and inventory on Shopify,

  • Local outreach and in-person fundraising event support,

  • Preparing certificates of retirement for carbon offsets and ensure that donors have received all their supporting informational material,

  • Book executive travel and prepare monthly expense reports,

  • Manage the helpdesk portal and process daily incoming service tickets,

  • Support the team with tech related admin (Salesforce, Shopify, Asana, and other SaaS cloud based tools),

  • Support the team with special projects.

Qualifications

Core Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of work experience in the nonprofit sector

  • Excellent Customer and Donor communication skills

  • Excellent written communication ability (clear concise writing, good grammar, editing for clarity)

  • Skilled in Google Office Suite, MS Office, Slack, Asana, and other SaaS tools (Expensify, Klaviyo, Payment processing software, etc…)

  • Experience in more complex software tools and databases, such as Salesforce and Shopify. Or a strong aptitude to rapidly learn software and technology, given appropriate training.

  • Strong collaboration skills. Ability to handle multiple tasks, manage projects and priorities effectively and professionally

  • Authorized to work in the United States

Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to work regular office hours, with scheduled in-office collaboration in the Manhattan Beach office.

  • Ability to work independently and implement solutions. Good judgment including reliable understanding of when and how to raise red flags to management for consideration and how to seek help when needed.

  • Ability to set priorities, manage a multitude of details simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, and meet required deadlines and commitments

Additional Information

POSITION DETAILS: 

  • Job Type: Full-time 40 Hours per week

  • Compensation: This full-time, non-exempt position will be funded at a salaried rate equivalent with a range from $58,000 to $63,000 annually.

  • Benefits: medical, dental, vision, chiropractic, 401k

  • Blend of office and work from home. This position does not anticipate out of state travel

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary stand/sit position and work routinely on a computer while at work. Constantly operates a computer, calculator, printer and other office devices.
