The Deputy Program Manager (DPM) supports the Program Manager in the execution of complex government programs, ensuring cost, schedule, technical performance, and contractual objectives are met. The DPM serves as the primary backup to the Program Manager and plays a key role in day-to-day program execution, cross-functional coordination, resource management, and support of proposal efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support overall program planning, execution, and control across the full program lifecycle.
  • Drive execution of program objectives related to cost, schedule, performance, and risk.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams or subcontractors to ensure alignment with contract requirements and milestones.
  • Support workforce planning and resource reallocation in response to schedule changes, contract modifications, or proposal efforts.
  • Act as the Program Manager in their absence, including leading internal and customer-facing meetings.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically to support customer meetings, program reviews, supplier engagements, and internal coordination.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze program schedules using Microsoft Project, including logic ties, critical path analysis, and schedule status updates.
  • Assist in development and maintenance of Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) and program spend plans.
  • Monitor program financial performance, including EACs, ETCs, and cost/schedule variances.
  • Identify, assess, and track program risks and opportunities; support mitigation planning and execution.
  • Support preparation for program reviews (PMRs, SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, etc.).
  • Serve as a key point of contact with government customers and internal leadership.
  • Support preparation of customer briefings, status reports, and contractual deliverables.
  • Ensure compliance with contract terms, SOW requirements, and Data Item Descriptions.
  • Support contract execution activities, including contract modifications, scope changes, and task order management.
  • Coordinate with Contracts and Legal on compliance items (e.g., DD254s, security requirements, data rights).
  • Ensure adherence to internal processes, EVMS requirements (if applicable), and government regulations.
  • Support capture and proposal activities for follow-on and new business opportunities.
  • Assist with proposal development inputs, including program execution approaches, schedules (MS Project), cost phasing, and risk assessments.
  • Support customer engagement and positioning strategies to enable future contract awards.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in program or project management, preferably within government or defense programs.
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Project for schedule development, maintenance, and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of program cost, schedule, risk, and resource management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced execution environment.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting or leading DoD programs.
  • Familiarity with EVMS, FAR/DFARS, and common contract types (CPFF, CPIF, FFP, OTA).
  • Experience supporting proposal development or capture efforts.
  • Active security clearance.
  • Prior experience in a technical or engineering role.
  • PMP or equivalent certification.


Clearance Requirements 

Some positions will require access to U.S. National Security information.  Positions that require this access will be required to receive and maintain a U.S. government personnel security clearance (PCL).  In order to qualify for this position, the candidate must be a US Citizen and either currently possess this National Security eligibility or be able to complete the investigation application process with a favorable determination and maintain that eligibility throughout their employment.
