At Forest Carbon Works (www.forestcarbonworks.org), we’re on a mission to help forest landowners in the U.S. unlock the financial and conservation benefits of carbon markets. As part of our growing team, you'll be instrumental in collecting essential forest carbon data and making a positive impact on the environment. 


We're seeking a motivated Data Technician to join our team on a contract basis. Data Technicians primarily assists with forest cruise photo processing - the organization and digitization of photosets taken by cruisers from the field. The Data Technician will work closely with the Quality Assurance Coordinator to process data and produce deliverables under supervision from the Data Manager. This position is ideal for those with a flexible schedule, part-time or full-time students, or those seeking a secondary income.


Chestnut Carbon is based in New York City. This is a remote/work-at-home position; however, you must live in the desired region within the United States. This is a part-time, hourly contractor position.


We need a commitment to 5 to 20 hours per week and must also be comfortable with fluctuating hours (some weeks 15+ hours, some weeks 0 hours). When work is available it needs to be completed in a timely manner. Hours are seasonal and dependent on when we cruisers in the field. More work is available in the summer and fall, with winter being typically very slow (sometimes no work during given weeks if no field data is collected).


Additional hours are sometimes available for separate projects.  


Ideal Qualifications
  • Hold a high school or higher degree, with an interest in the environment.
  • The ability to identify tree species within your region of the US.
  • Competency in the use of computers and a reliable high-speed internet is required.
  • Great written and oral communication skills and time management.
  • Can take directions and work independently.
  • Able to maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion with project deliverables.
  • Can work effectively with team members in different time zones.
  • Practical experience in the rapidly growing sector of carbon credits for ecosystem services.
  • Flexible hours and an open work environment.
  • Proven commitment to mentoring early-career employees.

$15 - $18 an hour
