POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineering Manager to lead our data engineering team as we scale and modernize our data infrastructure. This role will be critical in driving our efforts to migrate data from legacy platforms to our flagship product, onboard new customers, and develop robust pipelines for ingesting and processing IoT and operational data.

You will be responsible for managing a team of data engineers, guiding architecture and implementation, and collaborating cross-functionally with Product, Customer Success, and Engineering to ensure our data systems are reliable, scalable, and meet the evolving needs of the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers. 
  • Define team goals, manage performance, and foster a culture of excellence and collaboration. 

Data Platform Development

  • Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of data pipelines and platforms using Python and AWS technologies. 
  • Ensure data reliability, integrity, and accessibility across systems. 

Migration & Integration

  • Lead data migration efforts from legacy systems into our flagship SaaS platform. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to support customer data onboarding and bulk data uploads. 

Automation & Scalability

  • Identify opportunities to automate data workflows and optimize pipeline performance. 
  • Implement scalable solutions to process large volumes of IoT and product-related data. 

Architecture & Operations

  • Own the architecture and operationalization of streaming and batch data processes. 
  • Manage and optimize databases including Amazon RDS (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and Kafka-based streaming systems. 

Process & Collaboration

  • Champion engineering best practices, including version control, CI/CD, testing, and documentation. 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, customer success, and engineering teams to align on data needs and product development priorities. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role. 
  • Proficiency in Python for data engineering tasks. 
  • Strong experience with AWS technologies, particularly: 
  • Amazon RDS (MySQL/PostgreSQL) 
  • S3, Lambda, Glue, Redshift, DynamoDB 
  • Kafka (Amazon MSK or equivalent) 
  • Demonstrated experience with managing applications in production environments (e.g., alerting, monitoring, reliability). 
  • Solid understanding of streaming and batch data processing architectures. 
  • Experience working with IoT data, including ingestion, processing, and storage. 
  • Track record of driving automation and process improvement in data engineering environments. 
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. 

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience in a SaaS or IoT-heavy environment. 
  • Familiarity with Terraform, Airflow, or other orchestration/infrastructure-as-code tools. 
  • Knowledge of data quality, governance, and compliance best practices.
