This role focuses on designing, modifying, and optimizing control systems for advanced material handling and intralogistics solutions within an aftermarket environment. You will work on improving existing customer systems while also developing new control and power distribution designs that enhance performance, reliability, and functionality. The position blends hands-on engineering with system-level design, PLC programming, and cross-functional collaboration across software, field, and project teams. You will translate customer requirements into technical specifications, schematics, and control logic while ensuring high-quality execution throughout the project lifecycle. Operating in a fast-paced, solution-driven environment, you will also contribute to commissioning activities and on-site validations. This is a highly technical and impactful role offering the opportunity to shape large-scale automated systems used in industrial operations.

Accountabilities

In this role, you will design, enhance, and support control systems and power distribution solutions for material handling equipment, ensuring that customer requirements are met through innovative and reliable engineering execution. You will collaborate closely with project teams to deliver customized aftermarket solutions and ensure successful system performance from design through commissioning.

  • Design and modify control systems, power distribution systems, and industrial automation solutions for aftermarket material handling equipment
  • Review customer specifications and scope documentation to develop technical requirements and propose engineering adjustments
  • Create system layouts, schematics, control panel designs, and control sequence documentation aligned with project needs
  • Develop and implement PLC programs and configure systems using platforms such as QNX and other industrial control environments
  • Support integration with software engineering teams to ensure seamless system functionality
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, progress schedules, and technical deliverables aligned with project milestones
  • Provide field support, including commissioning, system validation, and troubleshooting on-site installations
  • Lead project execution activities and provide technical direction to junior engineers while ensuring quality control of engineering outputs

Requirements

This position requires strong experience in controls engineering within industrial or material handling environments, along with the ability to manage complex projects and deliver high-quality technical solutions. The ideal candidate is both technically skilled and comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced, customer-driven setting.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in engineering design and project execution, ideally within material handling or industrial automation systems
  • Strong knowledge of PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron) and familiarity with HMI/SCADA platforms
  • Experience with QNX operating systems is a plus
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, MS Project, Visio, and SharePoint
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and system design capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams, clients, and vendors
  • Experience leading technical teams or mentoring junior engineers is highly desirable
  • Willingness to travel up to 40% as required for commissioning and field support

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and technical expertise
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale industrial automation and material handling systems
  • Exposure to advanced controls, PLC programming, and integrated engineering environments
  • Career growth opportunities within a leading engineering and automation organization
  • Collaborative, technically driven work environment with experienced industry professionals
  • Travel opportunities for field commissioning and project implementation
  • Standard benefits package (details may vary based on location and eligibility)
