About the role

As Controller, you will serve as a key leader in the finance department, responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting operations. This role includes managing financial reporting, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and implementing financial controls. The Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and collaborate with various departments to support the achievement of business objectives.


What you'll do

  • Prepare and present accurate financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate closure of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal controls.
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgets and provide analysis of variances.
  • Design and implement internal control processes to safeguard company assets and enhance financial accuracy.
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews of financial processes to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting regulations, tax laws, and reporting requirements.
  • Manage the relationship with external auditors and support the audit process.
  • Work closely with operational leaders to provide financial insights and support decision-making. Participate in strategic planning and contribute financial perspectives to key initiatives.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of accounting software and financial systems.
  • Analyze and improve financial processes for efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a Controller or similar accounting leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and financial reporting standards.
  • Strong proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Experience in job cost accounting, particularly in GAAP percentage of completion, is a plus.
  • Experience implementing an ERP system (Sage Intacct) is a plus.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
