The Position

We’re looking for an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead our accounting function through its next phase of maturity. This is a critical leadership role reporting to the Head of Finance. The Controller will play a key role in building out scalable, compliant, and high-integrity accounting processes that support our global growth. You’ll lead our accounting operations and coordinate closely with external partners for tax, accounting ops, compliance, and treasury activities.

This is a remote position based in the US or Canada. If you're local to the San Francisco area, we spend one day a week together in person at our headquarters.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the evolution of our accounting function from a startup foundation to a robust, scalable, and compliant global platform.
  • Own and drive the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies, internal controls, and compliance processes aligned with best practices and global standards (e.g., US GAAP, IFRS).
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including GL, AR, AP, and payroll.
  • Partner with external vendors and advisors for tax compliance, audit, statutory reporting, and treasury support.
  • Serve as a key accounting advisor to the Head of Finance and collaborate cross-functionally with teams like Operations, Legal, Supply Chain, and Product.
  • Lead and scale the accounting team and systems to support rapid international growth, including local entity setup, statutory reporting, and intercompany processes.
  • Drive continuous improvements in financial systems, tools, and reporting capabilities.
  • Manage risk by ensuring compliance with local and international financial regulations.

What You Need

  • 10–15 years of progressive accounting and controllership experience, ideally in high-growth technology or hardware companies.
  • CPA or equivalent certification is strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and experience with IFRS and international accounting compliance.
  • Proven experience leading accounting in a multinational company, including managing overseas entities and navigating global tax and statutory requirements.
  • Strong leadership with a hands-on, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven approach.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite), and ability to drive systems improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to work cross-functionally and influence non-finance teams.
  • Track record of scaling finance functions and leading teams through change.

What's Nice to Have

  • Experience operating within a mature, high-performing finance organization with established processes and controls.
  • Demonstrated success in building and scaling an accounting function from the ground up.
  • Experience supporting IPO readiness.

What You'll Love

  • Competitive salary, equity, and health benefits.
  • Paid company holidays plus 20 PTO days per year.
  • Paid Parental Leave.
  • Flexible work hours and locations, including every other Friday off!
  • 401K with matching for US employees.
  • The chance to work at a startup that is making a positive social and environmental impact.
