The Role

We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our financial operations and strategy. This role will manage all accounting functions, financial reporting, audits, and compliance while providing strategic financial oversight. The successful candidate will be responsible for financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and risk management. We’re looking for a dynamic leader with a strong track record of managing day-to-day financial operations and driving financial success in a fast-paced, startup environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all finance and accounting functions, including accounts payable, receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
  • Manage month-end and quarterly close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheets, income, and cash flows).
  • Update and reconcile cryptocurrency balances, ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and compliance with accounting standards using tools like Koinly with staff accountant.
  • Provide financial insights and support leadership in fundraising activities, preparing financial statements and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise the staff accountant and manage relationships with outsourced tax/accounting service providers.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors, tax, legal, tech, sales, and other key functions.
  • Manage the tax return process, ensuring timely and accurate filings with external partners.
  • Lead or oversee annual financial audits, as necessary.
  • Update and review financial slides for board of directors meetings, ensuring accurate, clear, and strategic presentation of financial performance, forecasts, and key metrics to support board decision-making.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making.
  • Conduct financial modeling and reporting for investors and potential fundraising efforts.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Accounting and Finance, with a combination of public accounting and private industry experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders, including regular interaction with sales and tech teams as the most senior finance leader in the company.
  • Strong background in financial planning and analysis, reporting, and strategic financial management, ideally in the technology or SaaS industries.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic financial guidance and drive cost optimization and revenue growth.
  • Active CPA certification required.
  • Experience in accounting for cryptocurrency
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and financial analysis skills.
  • Deep understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience with credit card or loyalty programs in the travel or retail industries is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Quickbooks, Koinly, Google sheets, and other financial tools a plus.
