About the role
The Controller at Alpine IQ will be a key leader within the Finance and Accounting team, reporting directly to the Director of Finance & Accounting. This role is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and driving the development of scalable financial systems and internal controls. The Controller will lead the month-end close process, prepare accurate financial statements, oversee tax compliance, and manage cash flow. Additionally, this role will involve managing and developing the accounting team, supporting audit engagements, and contributing to strategic financial initiatives in a fast-paced, high-growth SaaS environment.
What you'll do
- Financial Reporting:
- Own the month-end close cycle, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements.
- Maintain accuracy of the general ledger, revenue categorization, COGS, and operating expenses.
- Prepare draft financial statements, variance analysis, and other reporting as needed.
- Compliance & Accounting Operations:
- Ensure GAAP compliance across all accounting functions.
- Record complex accounting entries (e.g., revenue recognition, capitalized software development, stock compensation).
- Oversee tax compliance, including federal income, state, and local taxes.
- Support annual financial audit and statutory reporting requirements.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage and develop the accounting team, including task allocation, performance management, and career development.
- Partner with the Accounting Supervisor to ensure accuracy in revenue, accounts receivable, and payroll reporting.
- Systems & Processes:
- Administer financial systems such as Netsuite, QBO, Bill.com, Rippling, and Avalara.
- Continuously assess and implement scalable financial systems to meet high-growth needs.
- Create and implement policies and procedures to enhance internal controls and streamline accounting processes.
- Strategic Contributions:
- Partner with the Director of Finance & Accounting on financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and special projects.
- Support cash management by overseeing disbursement timing and balances.
- Manage accounting for subsidiaries during acquisitions.
Qualifications
- Licensed CPA with a deep understanding of GAAP.
- 8+ years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in a high-growth and/or SaaS environment.
- Proven success in managing month-end close cycles and financial reporting.
- Strong ability to scale systems and manage growing transaction complexity.
- Experience in implementing internal controls and ensuring compliance.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain high-performing teams.
