About the Role
Fold is looking for a Communications Manager (Contractor) to manage and scale our external communications. This role will lead the cadence and release of press announcements, support drafting and editing of external comms, and coordinate cross-functional communications initiatives. You’ll also help amplify Fold’s story across earned media and social channels, surfacing opportunities for the company and its leaders to stand out in the Bitcoin and fintech conversation.
This is a mid-level contractor role reporting into Marketing, working closely with leadership, legal, and external partners.
What You Will Do
Core Responsibilities
- Own the quarterly press release calendar—from planning to execution—driving timelines, chasing updates, and keeping stakeholders (internal and external) accountable to ensure nothing slips through the cracks.
- Draft, edit, and refine press releases, media statements, FAQs, and executive quotes.
- Partner with PR agency and internal stakeholders to secure and track earned media opportunities.
- Partner with the Social/Organic team to amplify announcements, thought leadership, and media wins across social channels, driving share of voice and earned pickup.
- Maintain and update media lists and press materials, providing input on priority outlets and opportunities.
- Monitor industry news, social chatter, and competitor activity; surface insights and opportunities for the team.
Project-based / As Needed
- Collaborate with executives on thought leadership content (bylines, LinkedIn posts, speaking opportunities) that elevate Fold’s profile.
- Contribute to message frameworks and positioning documents to ensure consistency across press, product, and marketing communications.
- Program manage cross-functional comms projects (e.g., toolkits, playbooks) as needed.
Who You Are
- 5–7 years of experience in communications, PR, or corporate comms, ideally with both agency and in-house exposure.
- A relentless program manager who thrives on keeping projects moving—following up, chasing updates, and holding cross-functional teams and 3rd-party partners accountable until deliverables are in.
- Excellent writer and editor with the ability to adapt tone and voice for executives, media, and customers.
- Strong storyteller who knows how to frame narratives that resonate across mainstream, fintech, and crypto audiences.
- Curious, creative, and resourceful—always spotting opportunities for Fold to punch above its weight in the media.
- Familiar with the crypto, fintech, or financial services landscape, with curiosity and eagerness to stay current on industry news.
- Comfortable working in a regulated, high-visibility industry, navigating sensitive topics with discretion.
- Analytical and organized—able to track coverage, measure outcomes, and share insights.
Even Better If…
- You have direct experience pitching reporters or building media relationships.
- You’ve managed executive social accounts or helped translate company messaging into compelling posts.
- You’re crypto-native or have a strong personal interest in Bitcoin.
- You’ve worked in a regulated industry where comms required close coordination with legal or compliance.
- You’ve supported or created a crisis or issues communications playbook before.
