Communications Intern

Planned Parenthood Keystone (PPKey) serves 37 counties in Pennsylvania, home to over half of Pennsylvania residents. We have offices in York, Allentown, Bensalem, Reading, Wilkes Barre, Harrisburg, and Lancaster. We operate 7 medical centers that serve over 30,000 patients annually and offer comprehensive sexuality education that reaches thousands of young adults.

Planned Parenthood Keystone is looking for individuals who are committed to supporting our shared goal of strengthening and enhancing our awareness and commitment to advancing the cause of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging in our organization.

Planned Parenthood Keystone is looking for a Part Time (10-15 hours/week) Communications Intern to join our Marketing & Communications team. The hours are flexible, but at least one hour/week must be during regular business hours (9am-5pm EST) in order to attend check-ins. This is a great opportunity for a student who wants hands-on experience in media relations, storytelling, and nonprofit communications. You’ll help us share our message, track our impact, and come up with creative ideas to connect with our communities.

• Track and organize media mentions of Planned Parenthood Keystone. 
• Keep our media contacts list up to date. 
• Help create and update our press kit and other communication materials. 
• Research and vet reporters when media inquiries come in. 
• Brainstorm and draft ideas for media pitches. 
• Write blog posts and other short pieces to help tell our story. 
• Share media coverage across our social media channels. 
• Support press events, media campaigns, and special projects. 
• Ensure completion of required annual training. 
• Adhere to all HIPAA and patient privacy regulations. 

• Commitment to Planned Parenthood’s mission and conviction to health equity and access to sexual and reproductive healthcare 
• Understanding of racism and commitment to racial & social justice 
• Awareness of multiple group identities and their dynamics, bringing a high level of self-awareness, empathy, and humility to interpersonal interactions; building of trust across diverse groups of people 
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and hear effectively across differences and reflect and act on feedback related to identity and equity with the aim to learn

• Strong writing, editing, and research skills. 
• Interest in journalism, public relations, or nonprofit communications. 
• Detail-oriented and organized. 
• Comfortable with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X/Twitter). 
• Able to juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines. 
• Excited about Planned Parenthood’s mission and values. 
• Must submit to a PA State Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Fingerprinting Clearance.
• Must have access to reliable internet connection.

• Internship roles are unpaid but eligible for course credit at participating Colleges and Universities. Please consult your institution or program of study for course credit eligibility.
