Accountabilities:The Communications Director and Staff Director will provide both strategic direction and hands-on execution across communications, organizational operations, and executive support functions. This role requires strong judgment, adaptability, and the ability to manage complex initiatives while ensuring clear messaging and efficient internal processes.
- Develop and execute comprehensive communications strategies across multiple channels to increase awareness and engagement.
- Guide team members in creating compelling content, including articles, research summaries, and social media materials that communicate complex topics clearly.
- Manage social media strategy, content planning, and publishing cadence while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
- Ensure communications effectively balance scientific rigor, accessibility, and relevance for key audiences.
- Collaborate with researchers and program teams to develop strong narratives around technical work and organizational priorities.
- Act as a trusted partner to executive leadership by helping prioritize initiatives, coordinate workflows, and improve organizational alignment.
- Establish systems to track projects, deliverables, timelines, and organizational objectives.
- Facilitate communication between teams and leadership to maintain visibility and accountability across initiatives.
- Lead cross-functional projects requiring coordination across multiple stakeholders.
- Develop and implement internal policies, procedures, documentation, and operational processes.
- Support administrative operations by coordinating with external partners and internal team members.
- Co-manage executive support resources and ensure smooth handling of operational priorities, compliance requirements, and organizational needs.
- Maintain and improve organizational documentation, including reporting structures, workflows, and internal protocols.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will bring experience in communications, executive support, and organizational management, with the ability to operate effectively in a mission-driven, fast-changing environment. They should be an exceptional communicator who can simplify complex ideas while building systems that support organizational growth.
- 4+ years of progressive experience in communications, including translating complex concepts for diverse audiences.
- Experience supporting executives or leadership teams in fast-paced research, policy, advocacy, nonprofit, or technology environments.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Strong project management skills with excellent attention to detail and follow-through.
- Demonstrated familiarity with AI safety, AI governance, emerging technologies, or related fields.
- Strong organizational skills with a systems-oriented approach to improving processes.
- Ability to adapt quickly, manage ambiguity, and prioritize competing demands.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and build strong relationships.
- Strong judgment, discretion, and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to balance urgent operational needs with long-term strategic goals.
- Commitment to advancing work focused on reducing major risks associated with advanced AI systems.
- Preferred experience includes science communication, nonprofit operations, fiscal sponsorship models, policy development, or building organizational systems.
