Position Summary:

Frontier Tutoring has been proud to offer college admissions counseling to students across Alaska for years. We are proud to have a 93% acceptance rates to students' first choice colleges, and a 100% acceptance rate within students top 5 colleges. As a college admissions counselor, you will work with students to identify good-fit colleges for them based on their academic performance, SAT/ACT scores, goals, targets, and capabilities.


Duties:

  • Through training, master the essentials of college admissions strategy and testing.
  • Meet or exceed a monthly revenue standard by deploying your testing and college admissions expertise to:
    • Recommend additional Frontier Tutoring programs to existing students, as appropriate, based on their college admissions or scholarship goals;
    • Follow up with parents of students who have participated in our free practice events and demonstrate a need to improve their scores relative to their college admissions or scholarship goals;
    • Engage with prospective customers who contact our office with questions.
  • Represent Frontier Tutoring as a marketing ambassador by meeting with school staff to educate them on our free and paid programs, managing practice SAT/ACT events, delivering school presentations and workshops, and/or serving on community boards/committees.
  • Provide other management/operational/analytical support and work on special projects as required and based on your professional interests.
  • Provide college admissions counseling services to students to help them achieve their college admissions and scholarship goals.
  • Pay attention to changes that occur in the educational landscape including college admissions, and adjust instruction and materials to reflect those changes as they occur.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to master the fundamentals of test prep and college admissions strategy through training
  • Willingness to generate sales by recommending products to empower students to achieve their college admissions and scholarship goals
  • Interest in student success
  • Be a friendly people person - able to quickly establish rapport with colleagues, customers, prospects, and students
  • Willingness to work limited evenings and some weekends (schedules are set in advance, we will take into account your personal preferences, and we generally offer flexibility in general work hours)
  • Willingness to consistently strive to find improvements to existing processes and policies to make your job (and others) more efficient
  • Willingness to get certified as a college admissions counselor, and remain on top of changes in the educational and college admissions landscape 


**This is a startup company and a small local business. At times there will not be existing policies or procedures for how to handle a given situation. Working at Frontier Tutoring requires a sense of independence and a willingness to be flexible in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment.**


Required Experience/Education/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum 1 year of college or scholarship application guidance experience


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Starting pay depends on experience
  • This is a non-exempt, part-time, hourly position (20-30 hours per week, depending on preferences and availability) with the potential to move to a full time position

Background Check:

Safety is a top priority at Frontier Tutoring. For this reason, all employees, regardless of position, will be required to submit to a background check. This background check will include federal, state, and local criminal records checks, a sex offender registry check, and a domestic watchlist check. This may also include fingerprint based DPS and FBI history records check administered by the State of Alaska Department of Public Safety, as well as a third-party pre-employment screening procedure. All background check fees are paid by Frontier Tutoring. Employees may be required to submit to additional background checks or verifications at any point during their employment.


Frontier Tutoring is a fully compliant company with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act (“ICPA”) 25 USC §3207. Under the ICPA, the company must ensure that all employees, contractors, and/or volunteers providing tutoring services have not been convicted of, or plead guilty, no contest or nolo contendere to, any crime of violence, any felonious offense, or any of two or more misdemeanor offenses, under federal, state, or tribal law involving crimes of violence, sexual assault, molestation, exploitation, contact or prostitution, crimes against persons, or offenses committed against children. No applicants will be considered who do not meet this standard or who will not submit to a full background check.
