This executive leadership role offers the opportunity to shape the technology vision and product strategy of a mission-driven SaaS organization focused on student safety across K–12 education systems. The CTO will oversee all core technical domains, including software engineering, machine learning, DevOps, infrastructure, product management, and customer support engineering. Operating in a fully remote, long-established, and privately owned environment, the role emphasizes long-term impact over short-term financial pressure. The ideal leader will combine deep technical architecture expertise with a hands-on mindset, actively guiding engineering teams through complex scalability and innovation challenges. With massive-scale systems processing billions of events monthly, this position requires both strategic vision and practical technical depth. Accountabilities:- Define and lead the overall technology strategy across software engineering, machine learning, infrastructure, DevOps, and product development
- Oversee and mentor directors and engineering leaders across a technical organization of 55+ professionals
- Drive innovation and product evolution, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performance SaaS solutions for large-scale data processing environments
- Architect complex systems and actively contribute to solving critical engineering challenges when needed
- Lead the adoption and integration of AI-driven development paradigms across engineering teams and product workflows
- Ensure system reliability and scalability across AWS-based infrastructure and hybrid data center environments
- Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to align technical direction with long-term organizational goals
- Foster a strong engineering culture centered on accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a senior technology leader, ideally as CTO, VP Engineering, or equivalent in a high-scale SaaS environment
- Strong background in software architecture and hands-on engineering expertise, with the ability to engage deeply in technical problem-solving
- Demonstrated success leading large, distributed engineering organizations across multiple technical domains
- Deep understanding of modern cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred), large-scale data systems, and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong experience with backend and full-stack technologies such as Java, Python, React, Rust, MySQL, and search systems like Elasticsearch/OpenSearch
- Proven ability to lead AI/ML adoption and drive engineering transformation through emerging technologies
- Strong leadership skills with a people-first mindset and commitment to building healthy, high-performing teams
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in high-scale, high-complexity environments with billions of monthly data events
