We are seeking a Chief Systems Engineer in our Broomfield, CO location (preferably) or remote potential. Quantinuum believes that employees work better, more efficiently and more collaboratively in close proximity to other employees, where ideas can be exchanged readily, and decisions can be made more quickly for the benefit of the Company and our customers. All employees should work at their assigned location; however, this role may offer the opportunity to work remotely, with approvals.

 

Commercial-scale trapped-ion quantum computers are complex assemblies of subsystems across a broad range of technologies -- many-wavelength laser systems and optics, cryogenics, photonics, ultra-high vacuum, RF/analog/digital electronics, and layers of software. Successfully co-designing, integrating, and testing these instruments demands rigor and excellence in systems engineering philosophy and process.  To meet these needs, Quantinuum is seeking a unique Chief Systems Engineer to unite the best in Systems Engineering discipline with the cutting edge of quantum physics.  The ideal Chief will bring a strong background of deep-tech systems integration and lead Systems Engineering excellence across the organization.



Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish and implement the strategic vision for Quantinuum Systems Engineering – tools, processes, methodologies, & modeling techniques, to ensure consistent delivery of innovative and reliable systems
  • Inspire and inculcate use of the Systems Engineering toolbox across the technical organizations; train maintain, mentor, and motivate by influence
  • Partner with all functions across the business, including: procurement, IT, and facilities as well as engineering and project management to assure clear multi-way communication of all requirements, interfaces, and business needs
  • Drive consistent Systems Engineer process to avoid mistakes, leverage lessons learned, and improve overall efficiency and effectiveness across the product lifecycle
  • Ensure strong use of SysE practice at all stages of the product lifecycle, especially early stages, to derive maximum benefit of design for manufacturability, availability, and testability (DFMAT)
  • Perform and document trade studies and make clear recommendations based on best-practice Systems Eng tools such as Pugh Analysis & FMEA  
  • Partner with the architecture team on system design efforts, ensuring scalable, maintainable, and efficient solutions that align with both technical and business goals
  • Integrate and oversee subsystem interactions to achieve seamless operation and compatibility within the system of systems
  • Assure attention to key business requirements, as well as functional and performance requirements, in all product activities
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging metrics, audits, and feedback to optimize engineering processes and ensure alignment with organizational objectives
  • Partner with the organization’s Chief Scientists and Engineers to ensure smooth transitions from scientific prototypes into engineered products
  • Enable lifecycle-focused systems engineering, considering all aspects of the system, from concept through decommissioning, to optimize reliability, maintainability, and cost-effectiveness


YOU MUST HAVE:
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • Minimum 10+ years of Systems Engineering experience in industry, developing complex, multiphysics systems of systems and exposure at all of the architecture, development, production, and value-engineering stages
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. person (defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status)
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless also a U.S. citizen.  


WE VALUE:
  • M.S./Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, optical engineering or related technical field preferred
  • Demonstrable acumen with model-based systems engineering, requirements capture, and DFMAT
  • Quantum literacy: 2 or more years of experience/exposure to quantum physics technology in some area of industrial interest such as quantum computing, sensing, or communication
  • Direct background in AMO (atomic, molecular, and optical) physics
  • Passion for maturing new technologies
  • Experience working in both a lean, fast-paced startup environment with tight timelines and budget constraints; in other words, experience turning the seemingly impossible into possible
  • Experience with design, development, integration, testing, and deployment of complex, multiphysics subsystems
  • An ability to drive consensus and consistency across organizations by articulating the value of the approach
  • A cool, even-keeled temperament to keep conversations productive even in times of pressure and change
  • Cross-functional mentality: commitment to empowering and enabling all organizations within the business
  • Strategic thinking: aptitude for aligning tactical activities to achieve long-term strategic business objectives
  • Strong experience deriving value from product life-cycle management tools including requirements capture, modeling, data and configuration management tools, and phased product life-cycle processes
  • Certification in 6-Sigma tools and/or lean manufacturing techniques


$200,000 - $250,000 a year
Compensation & Benefits: 
Range posted is inclusive of incentive target
