Position Summary 

The Chief Lending Officer (CLO) is responsible for loan growth, strategic oversight, and managing Momentus Capital’s lending operations, ensuring that loan production and portfolio performance align with the organization's impact and profitability goals. The CLO reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer and will be a member of both the Executive Management Team (EMT) and the Momentus Leadership Team (MLT).  In addition, the CLO serves as a liaison to the Board of Directors’ Finance & Risk Committee and participates in and presents at the quarterly board meetings.

The CLO holds primary responsibility for the lending business and product development, loan portfolio growth and quality, relationship building, and setting the direction for loan production. Responsibilities include contributing to the development and implementation of appropriate loan policies and procedures, as well as providing guidance, strategic direction, and mentorship to all members of the lending teams. The CLO oversees the loan originations, portfolio management, and construction management teams.

The CLO will oversee the following functions:

  • Community Development Lending: Delivering capital to key community pillars, including high-quality health centers and education facilities, food systems operators, mixed-use and affordable housing, and cooperatives.
  • Small Business CRE Lending (SBA 504 and Small Business CRE non-SBA): Long-term, competitive loans to small businesses looking to purchase, improve, or refinance owner-occupied commercial real estate and large equipment financing.
  • Small Business Lending (SBA Community Advantage 7A & Microloans): Small business loans for start-ups and existing businesses for working capital, equipment, inventory, business acquisition, debt refinancing, and more.
  • Portfolio Management: Oversees loan portfolio performance, credit quality, and subsidiary management. 
  • Construction Management: Oversees pre-closing and assessment of a growing construction-backed portfolio and post-closing servicing. 

Requirements

Essential Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Develop and execute lending strategies to meet the organization's growth and profitability objectives.
    • Partner with the Chief Strategy & Growth Officer (CSGO) to strengthen the connection of lending products within and across teams to meet customer needs
    • Partner with the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to ensure lending policies and procedures to ensure compliance, sound risk management, and operational excellence.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to align lending activities with the organization’s broader strategic goals
  • Financial Management
    • Develop, monitor, analyze, and manage the department's performance metrics, KPIs, budget, and financial forecasts, to drive operational excellence and contribute to Momentus Capital’s financial performance.
    • Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs without compromising service quality.
  • Product and Business Development:
    • Partner with the CSGO to identify new lending opportunities and execute strategies to grow Momentus Capital’s loan production 
    • Partner with the CSGO and the President of Momentus Securities to structure loan products that are eligible for secondary market sales 
    • Build and maintain relationships with key clients to ensure the delivery of high-quality customer service.
    • Oversee the marketing and promotion of loan products to enhance the bank’s market presence.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to align lending activities with the organization’s broader strategic goals.
  • Portfolio Management:
    • Oversee and manage Momentus Capital’s loan portfolio, including small business and commercial real estate loans, ensuring portfolio diversification and compliance.
    • Report loan production and portfolio performance to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing regular updates on loan growth, quality, and risk.
    • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the loan portfolio, developing strategies to optimize profitability while minimizing risks.
  • Audit & Regulatory Compliance:
    • Collaborate with the compliance and risk management teams to ensure lending activities meet all regulatory requirements.
    • Develop action plans to address any audit or examination findings and implement corrective measures as needed.
    • Provide detailed reports on loan production, portfolio management, and lending performance to the CEO, board of directors, and regulatory agencies.
    • Ensure compliance with all lending-related federal, state, and local regulations
  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Provide day-to-day leadership for all assigned functions. Leads through collaboration, innovative management concepts, and initiatives to meet program goals and objectives within available resource allocations and in the most effective and efficient manner.
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the lending leadership team, promoting a culture of high performance and professional growth.
    • Establish divisional performance objectives that align with the corporate goals and mission, promoting employee recognition.
    • Promote a culture of accountability and high performance within the team, implementing training and professional development opportunities.
    • Ensure the lending team adheres to the bank’s risk management practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Credit Risk & Underwriting Oversight:
    • Participate in the  Loan Committee. Collaborate with the credit risk team to review and approve loan applications, ensuring adherence to underwriting standards.
    • Ensure that risk management practices are integrated into all aspects of the lending process.

Professional Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field. MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 20 years of experience in credit originations or banking, with at least 5 years in a senior lending or credit leadership role.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful lending strategies
  • Demonstrated success in managing diverse loan portfolios and driving growth in commercial and real estate lending.
  • Strong understanding of lending regulations, risk management practices, and audit/examination processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, with experience managing and developing high-performance teams.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to the board of directors, investors, and ratings agencies. 
  • Management and senior leadership experience.; Proven ability to lead complex organizations and drive growth in a changing environment.
  • Proficiency with written and oral communication skills

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $265,152.00 - $325,000.00 per year and is eligible for an annual incentive.

 This role is eligible to work remotely.
